Beach Regulations
So that our beaches can be maintained
safely for all to enjoy, several rules have
been established.
1
Beaches are guarded daily from
11:30am – 5:30pm until August 19, 2012.
2 Dogs are not allowed on any beach.
3Alcoholic beverages and smoking is not
permitted by law at any beach area.
4Boats are not permitted in designated
swim areas.
5 Certain floatation items are allowed with
the permission of the lifeguards.
6PFD’s are available for loan with a $10
refundable deposit at the lifeguard office.
Please bring your child(ren) to the beach
and remain with them. Keep them “within
arms reach” as all swimmers swim at their
own risk.

Get Ready For Kempenfest!
B
arrie is an amazing place to be in the
summer, especially on Kempenfest
weekend – what has become known as
Barrie’s annual homecoming weekend. In
fact, it is one of the largest outdoor arts
and crafts festivals featuring over 350
artisans, antique show, food, midway,
children’s activities, and an amazing live
entertainment line-up that attracts over
200,000 in attendance and all of the
economic spin-offs for the community.

food choices. The entertainment line-up
includes a variety of styles from rock to
country, tribute to original artists, with such
names as Lyric Dubee, Amy Rose, Hotel
California, Creedence Country, April Wine,
Chad Brownlee, The Martels, and so many
more. Daytime programming is free, while
evenings have a $5 charge at the gate.
It began 41 years ago with local charities
and service clubs joining forces to raise
funds. Today, the festival has blossomed
into one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals year
after year, raising over $250,000 for various
community projects.

There’s plenty to keep the kids happy
from the dizzying rides at the midway to
activities at the YMCA Children’s Village
near the Tiffin boat launch, including rock
climbing, pony rides, and jumping castles,
hands-on creations, and a BBQ lunch. Top it
off with a refreshing dip in the lake!
Kempenfelt Bay Swim
Are you a strong swimmer? Feeling
competitive? Kempenfest is also the venue
for the annual Kempenfest Bay Swim –
a 2000 metre challenge taking place
Saturday, August 4th at 9:00am starting
from Centennial Beach. Anyone can
participate for a fee of $10.00 and medals
are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in
each age class.
Optimist Antique Show
Be Green!
One of the biggest attractions, the antique
show includes over 40 Ontario exhibitors
with authentic collector items such as
jewelry, furniture, toys, and so much
more. All proceeds go towards supporting
local youth.
Get your workout in while on your way
to Kempenfest! This year there will be
a free Bike Corral at Kempenfest made
available thanks to a Celebrate Ontario
grant. Put your bike in the secured area
and relax knowing it’s safe and sound
while you shop.
Weary legs? Then relax by the water at
one of Kempenfest’s two stages – the
Southshore Main Stage and the

Drawing Workshop for Teens
with Kid K-OS

Teens are invited to explore the art
of drawing and learn some tips and
skills with Barrie graphic novelists,
Kaja and Christina Blackley. Bring your
imagination and come ready to draw.
This workshop is for teens entering
Grades 7-12.

on Lakeshore Drive from Minet’s Point

stating they will use the PFD in accordance
with the instructions provided. The user is
responsible to properly care for the PFD
and if returned in a damaged state, the
user is responsible for the replacement of
the PFD.

Weekend Service Pilot
Have you taken advatage yet?
If you haven’t had the opportunity to
take advantage of the summer weekend
train service, there is still time! The service
pilot operates on Saturdays, Sundays
and holidays until September 3, 2012.
For each day of service, six trips will bring
passengers to Union Station in Toronto,
two will originate at Allandale Waterfront
GO Station making all stops, and four will
originate at East Gwillimbury GO Station
also making all stops. The six northbound
trips will depart Union Station with
two trips making all stops to Allandale
Waterfront and four trips making all stops
to East Gwillimbury.
GO Buses will meet the East Gwillimbury
trains and make all stops to and from the
Barrie Bus Terminal. For specific schedule

Barrie Fire & Emergency Service will be ‘spraying’
several wards with safety reminders and a cooling
mist to help the kids cool off every Thursday this
August! Bring the kids to check out the fire trucks,
hands on activities, and to ask any fire safety
questions. Domino’s Pizza will also be on site
selling pizza for $1 a slice, with proceeds going
to charity.

service allows visitors the opportunity
to access PFDs on a one day loan
while at Centennial Beach and is
available 7 days a week through
the Lifeguard Office from 11:30am
to 5:30pm.
