Thank you Bishop’s Services Appeal 40th Anniversary Shine the light of Christ Each one of us is called through our common Baptism, to be a light to the world and to do our share in implementing the victory Jesus won on the Cross. While we cannot always be the one to comfort the grieving, bring hope to the socially oppressed, teach the young and reach out to those in need, we can—through our generosity ensure that our Diocesan Church is strong and vibrant so that it is able to meet the needs of so many in the year ahead. The Bishop’s Services Appeal provides the financial lifeblood for a broad range of ministries, apostolates and outreach programs. Your generous gift can and will make a difference to the least among us. May the Lord bless you on the day of your birth and fill your life with much happiness. We Are Unprofitable Servants For many years I thought I was “somebody” in the Church. I had even imagined the Church’s living structure as a temple sustained by many columns, large and small, each one with the shoulder of a Christian under it. My own shoulder, too, I thought of as supporting a column, however small. Then after twenty-five years I realized in a moment of truth that nothing was burdening my shoulder and that the column was my own creation-sham, unreal, the product of my imagination and my vanity. I had walked, run, spoken, organized, worked, in the belief that I was supporting something– and in reality I had been holding up absolutely nothing. The weight of the world was all on Christ Crucified. I was nothing, absolutely nothing! Carlo Carretto, Letters from the Desert Prayer for Respect of Life Today’s Gospel passage falls under the category that has come to be known as the “hard sayings” of Jesus. Hard to understand, hard to apply to life today. The Apostles’ request, “increase our faith,” is in response to a previous “hard saying” about how frequently we are called upon to forgive others. Curiously, Jesus seems rather unforgiving in responding to their request, or in describing the manner in which they are to serve others. Jesus uses exaggerations to wake us up to how God is present in our lives, and how we are urged to live if God is with us. None of us is called upon to uproot trees or cast mountains into the sea. The faith we have is adequate for the task we are called upon to do: spread the gospel by our witness. And living that witness is done not for self-gratification or recognition, but out of the joy of helping the world to hear the Good News. Heavenly Father, the beauty and dignity of human life was the crowning of your creation. You further ennobled that life when your Son became one with us in his incarnation. Help us to realize the sacredness of human life and to respect it from the moment of conception until the last moment at death. Give us courage to speak with truth and love and with conviction in defense of life. Help us to extend the gentle hand of mercy and forgiveness to those who do not reverence your gift of life. To all, grant pardon for the times we have failed to be grateful for your precious gift of life or to respect it in others. We ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen. _|àâÜz|vtÄ `|Ç|áàxÜá áxÜä|Çz tà à{x _ÉÜwËá gtuÄx Lectors Extra-ordinary Ministers of Communion Altar Servers Sacristans Oct. 7 6:30 am Clinton Boullion Brenda Hooper, Patricia Greene, Matilda Johnson Brenda Hooper Oct. 8 12:05pm Margaret Young Daniel Habetz, Charmaigne Lawless, Linda Ancona Margaret Young Oct. 9 6:30 am Jeanette Leger Deacon Tommy, Flo Broussard, Rita Monceaux Rita Monceaux Oct. 10 12:05 pm Dolores Deville Peggy Lake, Daniel Habetz, NEED HELP Helen Boudreaux Oct. 11 6:30 am Paul Molbert Dr. Neal Duhon, Clarence Arsement, Liz Deaville Rita Monceaux Oct. 12 4:00 pm Cathy Breaux, Clarence Arsement Deacon Tommy, Gale Prejean, Helen Arsement, Edward Prejean, Diana Duhon, Dr. Neal Duhon, Albert Johnson Shelby Bordes, Sarah Doucet, Kyler Habetz Cathy Breaux Oct. 13 7:00 am Larry Van Pelt, Becky Miller Deacon Tim, Flo Broussard, Keith Vienne, Patrick Miller, Mona Vienne, Georgette Richard, Matilda Johnson Michael Gossen, Hunter Keely Mike Doucet 10:00 am Faye Jeffers, Amy Johnson Deacon Dan, Harry Comeaux, Peggy Deville, Louisette Broussard, Paul Molbert, Mike Ortego, Jonathan Hebert, Eva Simon Madeline Deville, Ethan Bowling Harry & Nola Comeaux 5:30 pm Leah Guidry Deacon Denis, Barry LeBlanc, Jimmy Fontenot, Mike Abshire, Josette LeBlanc, Denise Breaux, Randy Bertrand Heidi Guilbeau, Luke Mire Eric Mire Oct. 14 6:30 am Clinton Boullion Keith Vienne, Randy Bertrand, Mona Vienne Brenda Hooper Oct. 15 12:05pm Margaret Young Linda Ancona, Daniel Habetz, Mary Guidry Margaret Young Oct. 16 6:30 am Jeanette Leger Barry LeBlanc, Dean Thibodeaux, Rita Monceaux Rita Monceaux Oct. 17 12:05 pm Dolores Deville Peggy Lake, Charmaigne Lawless, Daniel Habetz Charmaigne Lawless Oct. 18 6:30 am Clarence Arsement Deacon Tommy, Helen Arsement, Rita Monceaux Robert Simoneaux Oct. 19 4:00 pm Allison Gray, Luke Beslin Deacon Denis, Zubaida Elahi, Jimmy Fontenot, Brenda Hooper, Lyn Guidry, Daniel Habetz, Martha Pryor LeeAnn Gray, Madison Gray, Dylan Meche Gilbert & Mary Cormier Oct. 20 7:00 am Betty Bellard, Clinton Boullion Deacon Tommy, Barry LeBlanc, Michael Bellard, Mary Guidry, Brunella Reed, Sylvia Alleman, Darrell Dugas Christopher & Lane Comeaux Brunella Reed 10:00 am Jared Lawless, Connie Richard Deacon Tim, Marlon Leger, Linda Arceneaux, Christine Dupont, Margaret Young, Jonathan Broussard, Liz Deaville, Hubert Matte Michael Johnson, Timothy Johnson Melinda Leger 5:30 pm Janet Bertrand Deacon Dan, Angela Says, Randy Bertrand, Lance Abshire, Bill Says, Russell Menard, Beth Goins Luke LeBlanc, Ian LeBlanc, Noah LeBlanc Flo Broussard Pure Louisiana Hot Sauce A Cajun priest recently arrived in his new parish in upstate New York.
