Rush to be Good
November 2006 will see the best group of ridden horses
perhaps ever in Australian history come together in an auction
situation to go under the hammer. Times are changing and
the rush of Australian riders looking at challenging the best
in the world has grown from a trickle to a stampede. We
write this post-WEG Aachen where, unbelievably, Edwina
Alexander achieved an individual 4th place in the world in
showjumping! If this had been suggested beforehand it would
have been howled down in cynical laughter. The eventers
won a bronze team medal with Clayton Fredericks achieving
a silver medal individually. At Burghley 3DE in the UK two
weeks later, Australia was 1st, 2nd and 3rd, with Lucinda
Fredericks, Andrew Hoy and Shane Rose respectively rising
to the occasion. Australia is hot right now and believe us, it
is just the beginning. Much of this success revolves around
the firepower of the horses with which we as a nation are
mounting our campaign. That is one of the big changes.
Australians are now riding exotic, state-of-the-art, bred-forthe-job horses. And we’re winning all over the world. And the
winning is becoming more and more frequent. And there is
an urgency in the air as we rush to be good. And mark our
words, soon it will be a stampede!
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our Auction of the Stars’
annual ridden horse auction. These are exciting times and
these horses are exciting individuals. The 30 lots on offer
are representative of the Australian frontlines where many
horses are purpose-bred, carefully selected and on track to be
part of the Australian rush to be good! Our auction is a great
day where at least some life-changing dreams will have a
beginning!! Good luck.
Heath, Ann-Maree and Dirk

Grand Prix stallion
16.3hh
1996
At Sydney CDI in May this year there were 28 entries in the Grand Prix – the biggest
collection of Grand Prix horses in Australian history! Amoucheur (Kelly Layne) did his
best test ever to win, reigning Australian Grand Prix champion Greenoaks Dundee
(Heath Ryan) was foot perfect for second, both were named on the Australian squad
for WEG. Regardez Moi? This mind-blowing young stallion performed his fourth
Grand Prix ever and let rip with a blinder to place third – his turn to be part of our
Australian team is coming soon … real soon. Shouldn’t you breed your mare to the
stallion whose quest will become part of Australian history? What’s more, this was
no fluke – this stallion has proved himself from the beginning! Australian national
medium dressage champion in 2004, blasting through the ranks to FEI with wins of
up to a tremendous 74%, NSW 2005 State FEI small tour horse of the year and winner
of one of only two gold medals awarded by Dressage NSW for three performances
over 70%! His sire Rubinstein is clearly one of the world’s leading sires of Grand Prix
dressage horses while his dam is equally brilliantly bred, by Consul out of a mare by
all-time dressage great, Donnerhall. Regardez Moi has a brilliant extended trot and
an exceptional ability to collect and dance in piaffe and passage. His first progeny are
outstanding, now scoring more than 80% in the arena. Stand aside, Regardez Moi is
coming through! Available live cover only (LFG).

2004
Byalee Briar is an amazing opportunity to acquire a highly sought-after European
pedigree - Bjorsells Briar 899 was the world’s number one dressage breeding stallion
for five consecutive years! Now rider Jan Brink has chosen the Briar son Biggles as his
next international GP horse. Briar 899 has won numerous international medals, he has
eight different breed society approvals, and has sired no less than five approved sons
with two winning Sweden’s national stallion tests scoring 10s for rideability and gaits.
He is famous for a quote from Olympian Kyra Kirkland, who said: “I would give my
soul for this horse!” On the dam line, Byalee Briar is out of a Bernstein mare. Bernstein
is a Swedish warmblood stallion with many approved stallions, again with a pedigree
that has proved itself in the ranks of Grand Prix in both Europe and the US. Bernstein
also sired Madonna, the winner of the national Swedish finals for four-year-olds, and
won the Breeders’ Trophy for 5- and 6-year olds. He was himself dressage stallion of
the year in Sweden in 2001. Together these bloodlines now have produced what we
expect to be one of the most exciting young stallions to be brought into Australia.
Byalee Briar has a soft, regular trot, he has inherited Briar’s incredible uphill canter
with strong shoulder and knee action, and he shows that ever-essential correct walk.
Byalee is thrilled to be able to offer these wonderful bloodlines live in the Southern
Hemisphere for the first time. As a bonus, Byalee Briar happens to be a palomino with
the colour dating back through eight generations of Swedish warmbloods .

Hanna of Statene Park and was bought by AEA Burong in September,
2001. By Weltmejier II, he is competing successfully with Dirk Dijkstra at
Prix St Georges and Inter I level and is never out of the placings. Rituel
was the 1999 Champion of Champions at the Austalian Young Dressage
Horse Championships (Dressage with the Stars) and placed 12th at the FEI
World Championships for 6yo dressage horses in Holland in June, 2000.
At his AWHA colt selection Rituel scored one of the highest classification
scores ever given. His offspring show the talent to become very special

1996
Jive Magic is Rozzie Ryan’s elite project heading for the Beijing Olympics. He is
currently a winner at Prix St Georges and Inter I level. Right now, however, he is being
overshadowed by his younger full brother Chatham Park Jac with Olympic rider
Rachel Sanna in the saddle. Jac has been described by international judges as being of
the highest quality you could hope to see, anywhere in the world. He was in fact one
of the youngest competitors at the World Equestrian Games at Aachen, at just eight
years old! Well, patience is a virtue and Jive Magic is worth waiting for! As a mare
owner this stallion must offer one of the most explosive collections ever in Australia of
dressage genetics. He is about to perform on the international stage and his talent and
genetics are obviously very inheritable looking at the two full brothers. You don’t even
need to be astute to see this coming! What a top line! Jazz - Grand Prix star, member
of the Dutch WEG Team. Cocktail - Grand Prix dressage star with Anky Van Grunsven.
Purioso - sire of Olympic dressage and jumping horses! His dam is by Fruhling, a son
of Landadel, who has sired World Cup finalists in both showjumping and dressage and
out of a mare by one of the world’s great Grand Prix dressage competitors, Aktion. His
progeny consistently score more than 70%. Available live and chilled (LFG).

2002
Romance is an exciting new prospect by Regardez Moi, who has hit Grand Prix in a
big way with Heath Ryan. Mixed with this outstanding Rubenstein and Donnerhall
pedigree is Lanthan (dec), a black 16.2hh stallion (German, imp). Lanthan sires
beautiful, elegant, modern warmbloods renowned for their temperaments and talent
in both dressage and showjumping. Romance marks the dawning of a new age in
dressage. He has an even, regular walk with a clear rhythm that is never hustled under
pressure. The trot has Grand Prix written all over it. It has a wonderful regularity and a
soft and strong swing through the back that makes him a delight to ride – indicating
that, like his dad, he is going to have international standard piaffe and passage. The
canter right from the day he was born had magical talent – what would be collected for
any other horse is something Romance can do on a loose rein, with great expression.
He has a natural suppleness and flexibility particularly through the poll. Mentally,
Romance is very stable, very aware and a great thinker, able to receive sophisticated
information and react without stress. Extremely intelligent, our biggest problem
is keeping him amused without training him too quickly since he never says no!
Romance is a beautiful and obviously upstanding individual - closer analysis makes
him incredibly exciting from a technical point of view, and we feel that he is part of
a dawning age of dressage in Australia. Available live or chilled, frozen available for
2006/2007 season (LFG).

AEA Metallic is the newest member of the AEA team and he has it all - looks,

powerful, elevated and cadenced trot with not only rare knee action but
also an extremely active hind leg. His canter is out of this world, huge and
big off the ground, again with elevated front leg action. His walk has a
big, impressive overtrack. Metallic is genetically performance-bred: Metal
is by the Dutch black pearl Olympic Ferro, winner of three Olympic silver
team medals including Sydney 2000! Metall’s dam is by Ramiro Z, producer
of international dressage and jumping horses. Metallic’s part in Equitana
2005’s Anky van Grunsven masterclass saw jaw-dropping expressions in the
crowd. Metallic placed 7th at DWTS 2005 - the only horse in the 5yos’ first

Here she comes, first horse in the auction. No matter what we say, how much
we publicise her, how great she is, Jinx at No 1 horse will bring a lower price
than she would if she were a little further down the draw. That is just an auction
phenomenon while everyone is jittery and getting the hang of the process! So
this spot is covered with something that’s really good to try and kickstart the
whole auction off on a positive note. Jinx has spectacular movement as seen
in the photograph and comes from a family born to represent Australia in the
international dressage arena. Her sire Jive Magic is on a program heading
towards the Beijing Olympics with Rozzie Ryan in the saddle. Full brother to
Jive Magic, Chatham Park Jac, has already represented Australia at the recent
World Equestrian Games in Germany with Rachel Sanna. Important to note: a
full brother indicates genetic excellence as opposed to being “freaks”. On Jinx’s
dam side is Lynx, full sister to Londoner, who was Australian Prix St Georges and
Inter I champion at age six with Heath Ryan and went on with Mary Hanna to be
a big time winner at Grand Prix. Look again at Jinx’s dam line - Beefeater Alpha
was Olympian Kristy Oatley-Nist’s first advanced level dressage horse. So this is
where the Australian cutting edge is - born to be Grand Prix, black and beautiful,
young and available. You just have to wonder, is this your calling to the halls of
Olympians?!!

rider. Billy is preliminary eventer and is great to ride cross-country with a
snaffle mouth and easily adjustable way of travelling. Billy is an excellent
showjumper, sharp in front and already working over 1.10m confidently.
Billy is an athletic dressage horse working at elementary level and clearly
ahead of his requirements in eventing. Already Billy Bob has won and placed
at intro level in just his first few starts! Performance wise, Billy’s dam lines
go back (via Hametus) to High Hat, sire of Sandrift, who is the mother of
Olympic gold medal winners Kibah Tic Toc and Kibah Sandstone. On the
sire’s side Billy features the stallion Wilkes, by Court Martial, well known for
producing great eventing types and jumping horses. Billy would be perfect

many, many dressage tests up to Intermediate 1. He was selected as the firstever Australian representative in the World Cup for Young Riders last year.
The dam of Foxy is a beautiful type of TB mare and was ridden by Dirk for

champion warmblood stallion who is in turn by the 17hh trakehner stallion
Falkensee, imported to New Zealand from Germany and sire of many winning
horses in all three Olympic disciplines. Nordstern’s dam is by the renowned
Polarschnee, top showjumper with Vicky Roycroft in Australia and sire of successful
Olympic eventers like Jagermeister II. Angel’s dam line also carries the necessary
pedigree for a great jumping talent – Double Cream is known throughout the
eventing world as the sire of top showjumpers and eventers like Scott Keach’s
Trade Commissioner and the Koreans’ Casson Road, both Seoul Olympians, and
advanced eventer Benduka (Simon Kale). This is a pedigree that is multi-layered
with performance in all disciplines and leaves no doubt that Byalee Angel will

What an amazing mover is this eye-catching young mare! Renowned for her
results in the young horse classes on the east coast of Australia, Patou stands on
the brink of an exciting dressage career and has the ability to lend her amazing
pedigree and movement to the next generation! “What an amazing mover!”
equestrian magazines say, referring to Patou as “the movement machine”! And
she truly is! From an early age, Patou has been wowing the judges. Launched
into the dressage world at the 2005 Sydney CDI at three years of age, she finished
third in the four-year-old Young Horse State Championships. Patou then went
on and won a young horse qualifier at Clarendon and in December 2005 at
Dressage with the Stars, the national championships for young horses, she placed
fifth, scoring the highest mark for trot in round one with judges including the
renowned Olympic trainer Harry Boldt. After the second round, Patou’s score was
7.42 but due to her rider’s course error she had marks deducted and finished
fifth. In March 2006 Patou was judged by German warmblood assessor Gerhard
Thele as the second-highest mare in Australia from 60 candidates, receiving
77.25% for conformation and movement. In May 2006 Patou returned to Sydney
CDI, winning the first round and finishing second in the second round. At five
years of age Patou has a wealth of experience under her belt and she is only just
beginning! Watch out!

attitude is great and he is a pleasant horse to handle. If you are looking for
a great all-rounder, a showjumper or an eventer then he is certainly a MUST
to have a look at.

Chestnut gelding mature 17.2hh 18/01/03
Jalapeno is a very impressive young horse with beautiful markings and a majestic
presence. He is a sensitive and gentle soul whose trainability is exceptional. Not
only does he have three superb paces, rhythm and expressive movement but his
temperament is remarkable. He truly is a gentleman. He was professionally
broken in and is currently trained by Heath Ryan. In such a short time Jalapeno
has scored more than 76% at his first outing, and championships at preliminary.
Jalapeno is out of Wolfingham Georgia by supersire Jive Magic. His dam was
a successful FEI dressage competitor before retiring as a broodmare with a
career filled with championships. The dam’s dam, Jerry Hall (Monopol), was
successful at medium level with Grand Prix rider Shaun France. Georgia’s sire,
Don Ramiro (Don Primero) was competed by Heath Ryan and took home many
championships. Don Ramiro also sired TL Ramedon who with Glenda Rooke
performed successfully up to FEI level before being sold to overseas interests. Jive
Magic needs no introduction and is set to be Rozzie Ryan’s next superstar with
the Beijing Olympics in mind. Jalapeno is truly an absolute delight and given
the right partner and opportunities will definitely make it into the international
dressage arena. This is serious stuff!!

Australia’s most established and respected bloodlines come together with
some of the newest and most exciting state-of-the-art pedigree in this firsttime offering of a mare in foal to Byalee Briar. Byalee Opal brings Contact
(imp) lines via her sire Mountain View Prancer while her dam is by the
influential imported stallion Monopol. Both of these stallions have had a
huge impact on the Australian performance scene and breeding industry.
Opal comes with a PPT and LFG to Byalee Briar, the newest imported stallion
for Auction of the Stars and one that brings with him a wealth of Grand Prix
genetics. He is by none other than Bjorsells Briar 899, international Grand Prix
star and the world’s number one dressage stallion 2001-2005. Byalee Briar’s
dam sire, Bernstein, is also a proven sire of Grand Prix horses and talented
young horse superstars. Opal is a proven breeder and has been campaigned
at preliminary/novice dressage in the lead-up to the auction. She has regular
pony club experience with her teenage rider and is therefore extremely easy

lots of reasons has never really had great opportunity. He has won at State

how good this horse is! He does have great extensions (actually loves doing
them), easy two-track work, flying changes that are clean and straight and
talented pirouettes. Paparazzi is a tall elegant horse with a real athletic look

Palmers Green – “Basil” – is an up-and-coming eventing superstar – in the

he has won or placed in almost every one of his eventing outings. His dam

line also includes Sostenuto who also sired great horses like Heath Ryan’s
very successful mare Music who was the dam of advanced dressage horse
Stirling Lyric and Janet Dillon-Smith’s Grand Prix horse Lamar. Basil has
an amazing temperament and is happiest in the competition arena. He is
beautiful to ride cross-country and gives a great feel both on the gallops and
over a fence, where he shows a very scopey jump and a lovely technique,
great behind. He is already schooling elementary dressage and competing

Dark brown gelding mature 16.2hh 8/01/04
Greenoaks Munich is a striking looking young horse and a full brother to
Greenoaks Weltman who was the 4yo winner at Dressage with the Stars 2005.
Munich has not put a foot wrong whilst being broken in and has proved to
have a sweet and amenable outlook on life. He has three very good paces with
an exceptional canter. Munich is beautifully put together and has great white
markings that make him stand out in the crowd. Interestingly, both he and his
brother Weltman have almost white tails. In theory their colour does not exist!
It does make for remarkable individuals. Munich’s bloodlines are also seriously
remarkable. Man about Town was imported by Clyde Wunderwald and started
his dressage career with great promise before his untimely death at just 5 years of
age. Metternich and Matcho are both very popular bloodlines in Germany with
Sao Paulo representing one of the best, most sought-after jumping bloodlines
in Germany. On the dam side is the great-moving Weltmeyer, prolific both here
and in Germany. On the bottom line is Matador, an individual medallist at Seoul
Olympics (Kyra Kyrkland) and World Cup freestyle winner. And right down the
bottom is Ramona, by the most amazing sire of Grand Prix dressage horses,
Rubenstein. Munich is an investment in the future.

Richmeed Dancer is in foal to Regardez Moi and due to foal on January

his career with Heath Ryan and was thought to be possibly one of the
most spectacular young dressage stallions in the world at the time. He is
represented by only a small number of foals but has produced stars like
Daylight who was Australian Medium champion some years ago with Rozzie
Ryan and is now NSW Prix St George Young Rider Champion with Brianna
Burgess. Don Ramiro has two crosses of Pik Bube and descends from the
great gold medal dressage stallion Donnerhall. In actual fact Donnerhall
appears on the dam side as well, so this is magnificent breeding. Many of the
foals from Richmeed Dancer have demanded high prices at auction with her
last foal being sold last year at the Auction of the Future Stars at AEA Burong
in Victoria – Just Dance – a sensation. The foal which is imminently due from
Dancer is highly likely to be worth more than the price demanded to buy the

Diablo Heart is one of the best-performed advanced eventers currently operating
in Australia. He was named the NSW Eventer of the Year at the EFA awards night
earlier this year. He has had many wins and placings at the advanced levels: here
are just a couple of his really big efforts:
2006 – 2nd Warwick World Cup. This cross-country track is considered one of the
biggest ODE tracks in Australia
2005 – 2nd Camperdown Lakes and Craters CCI*** 3DE in Victoria.
2004 – 1st Sydney CCI***3DE. This was pretty much around the same track as
the Olympics.
Diablo Heart is also a very competitive C-grade showjumper. The only reason he
is not graded higher is simply that he rarely has the opportunity! Diablo Heart is
both comfortable and competitive at medium level dressage. He also has tempi
flying changes, canter pirouettes, great extended trot and all of the two-track
work. Diablo Heart is genuinely sound, is easy to keep, shoe and float. He can be
ridden by anyone with a bit of experience and would suit a young pro looking to
make their name in the bigger grades or a young rider needing a schoolmaster to
pilot them up through the grades. A pretty spectacular opportunity.
