I was attending a conference with the W.A.C.E. in San
Diego, the key note speaker was a man named Larry
Winget, who shared his common sense wisdom. He is a
motivational speaker, author and business guru. He has
a way to break things down to the simplest terms.
Here are a few of his thoughts:
Don’t worry too much about making the right decision.
Just make the decision, and then make the decision right.
Praise in public and criticize in private.
That is a good rule for dealing with your employees, your friends and your
kids.
Don’t think too much about how you are going to achieve your goals.
Too much analysis leads to paralysis. Too much thought can create worry,
and worry fosters fear and doubt. Don’t be overly concerned with how you are
going to get it all done. Just get started and learn as you go. Action creates
courage, and momentum keeps you going.
Everything has a price.
Success has a price and so does failure. Choose either but be prepared to pay
the price for your choice.
Some days you must put up with the 90 percent of your job that you hate
in order to get the 10 percent of your job that you love.
Here is what the credo of every business should be: This is a sacred place
where we only speak well of ourselves, we only speak well of our organization,
we only speak well of our competitors and we only speak well of our
customers….

For the past 25 years The Shoe Tree has been a mainstay of the Pismo Beach retail
community. Long known for its superior selection, service, quality, and value, The
Shoe Tree has also become a center of style.
The Shoe Tree’s extensive inventory is a favorite of locals as well as a great many
out-of-towners who remain loyal repeat customers. Additionally, the veteran staff have
a combined fifty years of expertise in finding the right fit. The store’s digital footwear
analysis technology combined with an extensive stock of orthotics and hard-to-find
sizes and widths assure customer satisfaction. The store also employs two state
certified pedorthists to help solve the most complicated custom fits for both comfort
and pain relief whether the activity is standing, walking or running.
So, if you are seeking adult footwear that is both comfortable and fashionable and
affordable remember The Shoe Tree for your next footwear purchase. Not surprisingly,
the store’s motto is “Happy Foot Space”.

Arsenal Rentals
Since 2007, Beach Bound has been providing rental opportunities for vacationers in the
Pismo Beach region. They have a large inventory of travel trailers and fifth wheelers to meet
the needs of their customers. The friendly folks at Beach Bound will deliver the unit you
choose and set up the campsite for your arrival. The spotless and comfy accommodations
they provide come with all kitchen items, cleaning supplies, paper products and, even the
outside mats for your site!
Pismo Coast Village, Pismo Sands, Coastal Dunes, and Dunes Ranch are all venues for
Beach Bound deliveries. They even provide units for Lopez Lake.
So, if you desire to spend some quality beach time, remember the Beach Bound Trailer
alternative. Let the service oriented staff show you why so many of their customers use their
rentals again and again. Call them anytime to check the availability of the specific alternative
that best suits your vacation needs. For all of us “locals”, Melissa waives the reservation fee.
So think about a get away weekend in your own backyard!

“MARTY’S PISMO BEACH COMMUNITY CORNER”
Martin L. Meltz, Ph.D.
Transitions Mental Health Association (T-MHA) is a highly regarded non-profit organization committed to
attending to the needs of the mentally challenged in San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara Counties.
On its website (www.t-mha.org/), it describes its mission as being "dedicated to eliminating stigma and promoting
recovery and wellness for people with mental illness through work, housing, community and family support
services."
One of the newest and less obvious programs is the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT), one of 6 intensive case
management teams within what is called the Full Service Partnership (FSP) Program umbrella. This is a
collaborative endeavor between SLO County Behavioral Health and Transitions-Mental Health Association
(T-MHA). The FSP program is funded through the Mental Health Services Act-MHSA (Prop 63). Funding for the
Homeless Outreach Team became available in 2012. What is special is that the HOT delivers services to
homeless adults who suffer with a mental illness and have been un-served or under-served by traditional clinic
based mental health services.
There are seven staff for the program; four from T-MHA and three from the County. T-MHA provides 1 full time
case manager, 1 full time and 1 half time outreach worker, and 1 half time peer support staff. The County
provides 1 half time medication manager, 1 half time therapist, and 1 half time public health nurse. Together, the
Team works with more than 150 high need clients on an annual basis and delivers services throughout the entire
County of San Luis Obispo, including Pismo Beach and the 5-Cities area. In the South County area, HOT
focuses on two activities; Outreach to homeless adults with mental illness and collaborating with other agencies
to help develop support plans and services for clients. Recently, the Team has worked with clients in the Nipomo
Mesa, Oceano Airport, and Grover Beach areas. Potential clients are identified by community members, referring
agencies, and team members themselves.
At this time, the staff is developing and growing the team. It does not yet have volunteers working with its
program, but would be open to the idea of utilizing volunteers to help deliver services in the future. At the present
time, the HOT encourages South County residents to get involved and share their knowledge and talents to help
other people in our community. For more information about T-MHA programs, visit its website.
