INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW
INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW
Welcome To
Ontario
discover all the excitement and
fun of snowmobiling in Ontario!
About THe OFSC
Each winter, thousands of
snowmobilers choose to
ride in Ontario for very good
reasons: hospitality services and
amenities that cater specially
to snowmobilers; breathtaking
scenery; unrivalled outdoor
adventure; snowmobile-friendly
communities; a wide variety of
riding experiences and terrain;
easy access to rental sleds and
guided tours; excellent highways
and airports; exciting city life
and rural charm - the list goes on
and on…
Using THis Tour Planner
But the main reason they
choose Ontario over any other
destination is the snowmobile
trails operated by the Ontario
Federation of Snowmobile
Clubs (OFSC). These
uncongested trails deliver the
best trail riding opportunities
bar none, with a season length
of up to 16 weeks.
So why would you go any
where else to snowmobile?
With almost 33,000 kilometres
(20,000 miles) of groomed
trails, there’s almost nowhere
in Ontario you can’t go by
sled. OFSC trails connect snow
belt communities and provide
access to hundreds of resorts,
hotels, motels, restaurants, gas
stations, snowmobile dealers
and clubhouses.
Wherever you travel, you’ll be
warmly welcomed and offered
every assistance to ensure your
snowmobiling pleasure. You can
ride any of our snowmobiling
regions, or tour to your heart’s
content on our world class
Trans-Ontario Provincial (TOP)
Trails. It’s your choice . . . so
come see us this winter and
2
Now that you have decided to
make Ontario your destination
this winter, how do you go
about answering your questions
and making your plans? Ontario
is a very big place, so how do
you decide what part of this
province to visit? How do you
know where the snow is and
what trails are open? How do
you get here and where do you
stay? What else do you need to
know?
Ontario is very snowmobilefriendly – and we want to prove
it from the start by making it as
easy and simple as possible for
you to snowmobile here. That’s
why we’ve partnered with the
OFSC to develop this handy
Tour Planner. It’s a companion
piece to the OFSC Provincial
Snowmobile Trail Guide, which
shows an overview of our trails.
The Tour Planner is your primary
tour-planning tool. It details
everything you need to know
about snowmobiling in Ontario.
It was written for snowmobilers
by snowmobilers, so you
can rely on the information it
contains.
Much of this material can
also be found by clicking
gorideontario.ca/snow, but this
Tour Planner provides you with
a hard copy reference to carry
with you and use when you
do not have internet access.
It’s like the bible of Ontario
Snowmobiling, putting all the
answers right at your fingertips!

The Ontario Federation of
Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC)
represents the 217 local
snowmobile clubs who operate
Ontario’s snowmobile trails. As
the world’s largest snowmobile
association, the OFSC is the
coordinating body for organized
snowmobiling in Ontario. Visit
on www.ofsc.on.ca to find out
more.
Additional
Planning Tools
Trail Guides: For tour planning,
you should use the OFSC
Provincial Snowmobile Trail
Guide, Ontario’s only provincewide snowmobile trail reference
tool. Using this Guide allows
you to see the big picture and
how trails connect various
regions.
The OFSC Provincial Guide
is also useful to discover the
thousand of kilometres of clubs
trails that exist alongside the
TOP Trail System.
When you have decided what
area(s) you wish to tour, you
should also obtain an OFSC
district guide(s) for greater
detail (see OFSC district contact
info, inside back cover). Our
district guides are designed to
be very snowmobiler-friendly.
Each guide cover uses the
same template, colour-coded
to match the district key map
on the inside back cover of this
Tour Planner. The guide covers
also include this same key map
to show the district’s location
within Ontario. District guides
are the best tools to use while
actually traveling on OFSC
trails. Not only do they include
regional and local information
and contacts, they also contain
ads from snowmobile-friendly
lodgings, restaurants and other
services who support organized
snowmobiling.
Interactive Trail Guide: The
OFSC’s Interactive Trail Guide is
the best online tool for viewing
the most up to date information
about trails, distances and
points of interest. It also
includes constantly updated
Trail Status Reports, to help you
discover which trails are best to
ride. Apps for all major smart
phones are also available, as are
routable GPS maps, so you can
carry the trails with you.
Visit www.ofsc.on.ca
Go Ride Ontario: As an
additional tour planning
tool, this site places valuable
information on Ontario tourism
regions, where to stay, and
advice about riding in Ontario
at your fingertips.

Publications: The OFSC
Go Snowmobiling Ontario
Magazine is the official
publication of the OFSC and is
mailed to every snowmobiler
who buys a Seasonal or Classic
Permit (1-year subscription
starts the season following
permit purchase).

Trail Permits

districts (inside back cover)
and snowmobile clubs
• Permits are available online at
www.ofsc.on.ca.
• Permits are available on site
from most winter businesses,
such as sled dealers,
restaurants, and motels.
• Permits generate the revenues
OFSC clubs need to operate
snowmobile trails.
• By purchasing a permit, each
rider contributes to the cost of
providing snowmobile trails.
• To ensure that your permit
money goes to the OFSC
district whose trails you ride
most, it is important to buy
your permit from a club in that
district.

Getting To Ontario
Friendly and Familiar:
American snowmobilers are very
welcome in Ontario. Ontario
has always been a great friend
and trading partner to the U.S.
In fact, getting to Ontario isn’t
much different than going to a
neighbouring state. We’re just
as close and our major highways
connect seamlessly to yours at
numerous border crossings.
In Ontario, we speak your
language (except we spell some

words funny!), use many of the
same products, have similar
laws – and ride the same brands
of snowmobiles as you do. Best
of all, each American dollar
often buys you more in Ontario
than it does at home.
Most Americans who travel
to Ontario say they are very
comfortable visiting here
and look forward to coming
back. Just remember that we
measure distance and speed in
kilometres. (for conversion tools
visit gorideontario.ca/en/snow/

Crossing the Border: If you are
a Canadian citizen or permanent
resident of the United States,
you won’t need a passport to
enter Canada.
However, to cross the border
into Canada as quickly and
smoothly as possible, you will
need proof of citizenship such
as a birth certificate, citizenship
certificate, passport or landing
card, preferably with a current
photo, ready to present when
asked.
Note on Re-Entering the U.S.:
As of June 1, 2009 all travellers,
including US citizens 16 years of
age or over, entering the United
States from Canada by air,
land or water will be required
to have a passport or other
travel document approved by
the Department of Homeland
Security. For latest info, click

BON À SAVOIR
BON À SAVOIR
bienvenue en
ontario
Tous les hivers, des milliers
de motoneigistes choisissent
l’Ontario pour d’excellentes
raisons : services d’accueil et
commodités qui répondent
exactement à leurs besoins;
paysages époustouflants;
aventures palpitantes en pleine
nature; collectivités amicales à
l’égard des motoneigistes; vaste
variété d’expériences et de
terrains; services de location et
circuits accompagnés faciles à
trouver; aéroports et routes de
premier rang; villes dynamiques
et charme de la campagne – la
liste est longue…
Toutefois, s’ils choisissent
l’Ontario plutôt que toute
autre destination, c’est
principalement en raison
des sentiers de motoneige
qu’exploite la OFSC. Ces
sentiers bien balisés offrent aux
motoneigistes les meilleures
conditions qui soient et une
saison qui dure jusqu’à
16 semaines.
Alors pourquoi iriez-vous
ailleurs pour faire de la
motoneige? Avec près de
33 000 km de sentiers
aménagés, vous pouvez
parcourir tout l’Ontario en
motoneige. Les sentiers de la
OFSC relient les collectivités
de la Ceinture de neige et
permettent d’atteindre des
centaines de centres de
villégiature, d’hôtels, de motels,
de restaurants, de stations
service, de concessionnaires de
motoneiges et de chalets.
Partout, vous aurez droit à un
accueil chaleureux et vous
trouverez toute l’aide nécessaire
pour que votre randonnée
36
en motoneige soit des plus
agréables. Vous pouvez
parcourir l’une ou l’autre de
nos régions en motoneige, ou
traverser l’Ontario du Québec
au Manitoba, en empruntant
les sentiers de la province. À
vous de choisir… Venez donc
nous rendre visite cet hiver
et découvrez les joies de la
motoneige en Ontario!
utilisation du guide
des circuits
Lorsque vous aurez décidé
que vous explorerez l’Ontario,
cet hiver, qui répondra à vos
questions? Qui vous aidera à
planifier votre séjour? L’Ontario
est très vaste.
Comment décider quelle région
visiter? Comment savoir où
trouver la neige et les sentiers
ouverts? Comment se rendre à
tel ou tel endroit et où loger?
Voudrez-vous savoir autre
chose?
On trouve aussi presque tous
ces renseignements à l’adresse
faireuntourenontario.ca.
Le Guide absolu des circuits
présente toutefois un avantage :
vous pouvez l’emporter avec
vous et vous en servir comme
ouvrage de référence quand
vous n’avez pas accès à
Internet. C’est un peu une bible
de Motoneige Ontario. Avec lui,
vous aurez toutes les réponses
à portée de main!
À propos de la ofsc
La Ontario Federation of
Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC)
représente les 217 clubs
de motoneige locaux qui
exploitent les sentiers de
motoneige de l’Ontario. la
OFSC, la plus importante
association de motoneige du
monde, est l’organisme de
coordination de la motoneige
organisée en Ontario. Pour plus
de détails, cliquez sur ofsc.on.ca
La convivialité de l’Ontario à
l’égard des motoneigistes est
sans égale et nous voulons vous
le prouver dès le départ en
vous rendant les choses faciles
et simples. C’est pour cette
raison que nous nous sommes
associés à la OFSC pour
préparer ce guide des circuits,
très pratique. Il accompagne le
Guide des sentiers provinciaux
de la OFSC.
autres outils de
planification
Le Guide des circuits est le
principal outil de préparation
d’une randonnée. Il vous donne
des renseignements détaillés
sur tout ce que vous devez avoir
sur la motoneige en Ontario. Il a
été rédigé par des motoneigistes
pour des motoneigistes. Vous
pouvez donc lui faire totalement
confiance.
Le guide provincial de la OFSC
permet aussi de découvrir
les milliers de kilomètres de
sentiers entretenus par les clubs
locaux et qui sont accessibles
à partir du réseau de sentiers
transprovinciaux.
Guides des sentiers : Pour
planifier vos randonnées, vous
devriez vous servir du Guide
des sentiers provinciaux de
la OFSC, la seule ressource
provinciale de motoneige de
l’Ontario. Grâce à ce guide,vous
aurez une vue d’ensemble des
sentiers et de la façon dont ils
relient les régions entre elles.
Une fois que vous aurez
choisi la ou les régions que
vous souhaitez sillonner, vous
devrez vous procurer le ou
les guides des districts de la
OFSC pour avoir davantage
de renseignements (voir
information et personneressource dans les districts
de la OFSC à l’intérieur de la
couverture arrière).
Nos guides 2012 sont
conviviaux. La couverture de
chacun suit le même modèle
et est de la même couleur que
le district, sur la carte de la
couverture intérieure arrière
de ce guide. Une carte-index
de la province se trouve aussi
en couverture afin de bien
localiser la région. Les guides
de district sont les meilleurs
accompagnateurs, lorsque
vous parcourez les sentiers de
la OFSC. Ils comprennent des
renseignements régionaux
et locaux, mais aussi des
annonces d’établissements
d’hébergement et de
restaurants heureux d’accueillir
des motoneigistes, ainsi que
d’autres services qui apportent
leur concours à la motoneige
organisée.
Guide interactif des sentiers :
Le guide interactif des sentiers
de la Fédération des clubs de
motoneigistes de l’Ontario est
le meilleur outil en ligne pour
obtenir des renseignements
à jour sur les sentiers, pour
connaître les distances et les
points d’intérêt. Il comprend
des rapports sur l’état des
sentiers fréquemment mis à jour
pour vous aider à découvrir le
meilleur sentier à parcourir. Des
applications pour les principaux
téléphones intelligents, comme
des plans satellite, sont aussi
offertes. Vous pouvez ainsi

Faire un tour de motoneige en
Ontario : Voici un autre outil
de planification, un site où
vous trouverez de l’information
sur les régions touristiques et
les lieux d’hébergement de
l’Ontario, ainsi que des conseils
sur la pratique de la motoneige
en Ontario. Le tout, au bout
de vos doigts! Visitez le www.
gorideontario.com/fr/snow
Publications : Le magazine de
la OFSC, Go Snowmobiling
Ontario, est la publication
officielle de la Fédération et est
postée aux motoneigistes qui
achètent un permis pour toute
la saison. L’abonnement d’un
an au magazine commence la
saison suivant l’achat du permis.
Ce magazine est une source
de renseignements sur les
excursions en Ontario.
À PROPOS DES SENTIERS DE

km (20 292 mi) de pistes de
motoneige interconnectées,
qui forment le plus long
réseau de pistes de
motoneige du monde.
• Le réseau des sentiers
comprend les sentiers
provinciaux trans-ontariens
de la OFSC (15 591 km/
9 687 mi) et les sentiers des
clubs et des régions (près de
17 067 km/10 604 mi).
• Les sentiers provinciaux
trans-ontariens relient la
plupart des collectivités de
la Ceinture de neige, les
postes frontaliers, les régions
touristiques et les réseaux de
sentiers régionaux.
38
BON À SAVOIR

participe aux coûts
d’exploitation des sentiers de
motoneige.
• Pour vous assurer que
l’argent de votre permis

SNOWMOBILE ONTARIO QUICK CONTACTS
BON À SAVOIR
Pourquoi attendre? Il est facile et commode
de vous procurer en ligne un permis
d’utilisation des sentiers, surtout si vous
souhaitez vous prévaloir de la réduction de 50
$ offerte en l’achetant avant le 1er décembre
2012. Le ministère des Transports de l’Ontario
a approuvé notre nouveau site Internet,
votre magazine!
Ontario has 9 tourism regions (see inside front cover) and the Ontario Federation of
Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) also divides the Province into 16 districts, each of which has
its own trail guide. Below is a sketch map showing OFSC district locations along with
their contact information. Links to OFSC districts and clubs, as well as current Trail Status
Reports, can be found at: www.ofsc.on.ca.
CONTACTS DE MOTONEIGE ONTARIO EN BREF
