Our Lady of Mount Carmel 235 East State Street Doylestown, PA. 18901 215-348-4190 Fifth Sunday of Lent March 13, 2016 www.ourladymtcarmel.org Tithing is “Stewardship In Action” Sunday Mass Schedule Vigil on Saturday 5:00 P.M. Masses on Sunday 6:30, 7:30, 9:00, 10:30 A.M., 12 Noon & 5:00 P.M. Daily Masses Monday to Friday 6:30 & 8:00 A.M. Saturday 8:00 A.M. Holy Days Vigil 7:30 P.M. 6:30, 8:00 A.M., 12:00 Noon, 7:30 P.M. From the Desk of Our Pastor Christian Stewardship The Christian family has been called the domestic church. The American Catholic Bishops have emphasized the importance of the family in their letter on stewardship entitled, Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response. The Bishops point out: “within the family, parents must teach their children the truths of faith and pray with them; share Christian values with them in the face of pressures to conform to the hostile values of a secularized society, and initiate them into the practice of stewardship itself, in all its dimensions, contrary to today’s widespread consumerism and individualism”. This may require adjusting the family’s patterns of consumption and its lifestyle, including the use of television and the internet which sometimes preach values in conflict with the mind of Christ. As we enter into the final days of the Lenten Season once again let us consider ways in which we can limit our use of legitimate pleasures even television and video so we can use the time for prayer and works of mercy. The Second Collection is the Regular Sunday Collection Closing Prayer - Sister Dolores Burkhardt Respectfully submitted: Julie Donahue 3 Several weeks ago, the 3rd grade students planted trays of organic, mild microgreens, a variety of Brassica consisting of mizuna, cabbage, kale and kohlrabi. Microgreens are planted in long, shallow flats with a bottom-watering system which make them very easy for children to grow. Even more exciting is that the time period from planting to harvest is only ten to fourteen days. Each pair of students planted and tended their own flat, and this week the students spent the morning carefully cutting and washing the microgreens. The students were amazed at the harvest - the fourteen flats yielded eight large bags of washed greens! Needless to say, there was enough produce to feed the entire class. Our 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Poiesz, brought in salad dressing and other veggies so that the students could make their own fresh salads. It’s amazing to see students who don’t normally care for greens enjoying salads that they planted, watered and harvested. It was truly a farm to table experience. We’re rapidly approaching the spring planting season. Each class has decided on the vegetables, fruits or flowers that they’d like to start in the ecological classroom with the goal of taking the produce home in late May. Our 7th and 8th grade iServe members are planting tomatoes and peppers to harvest and donate to a food bank, and our 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Crandall, is running an elective class in the ecological class room with the goal of selling herb plants to raise money for the parish Haiti mission. We’re off to a healthy start! God bless, Dawn Parker 4 CCD Registration 2016-2017 Grades K-8 Mentoring Ministry has an urgent need for a room rental for a woman 35 yrs old released from Bucks county work release corrections beginning 1st of May 2016.
