NOVA, which was established in 1974 by a group of community volunteers, serves survivors of crime in Bucks County, a community where crime can often seem to be something that happens somewhere else. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. The truth around us is that all men, all women, can be touched by crime. Yet NOVA was founded on the idea that we can ultimately achieve a society free of violence, one that promotes respect for the diversity and dignity of all people, by being a voice against violence. To that end, NOVA offers short-term solutions to its clients—a 24 hour, toll-free support hotline, counseling and a companion who will accompany them to both the emergency room and the courtroom — as well as longer term support through advocacy, training, community education, and innovative prevention programs. Ms Dugery, the coordinator of volunteers and community outreach for NOVA, will provide an overview of the agency and its free and confidential services to local victims of crime. She’ll also talk about special initiatives like the NOVA Thrift Shop and the Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center, and she’ll outline the many volunteer opportunities that the agency provides. Please join us in breaking the silence. Monday, May 5th, 7:00PM at St. Mary’s Hall. Refreshments will be served. For further information, call: Sue Palladino Quinn 215-489-8690. On this Divine Mercy Sunday, let’s contemplate St. Faustina’s message from Jesus...that He longs for us, that He suffers when we don’t accept His mercy and forgiveness. Check out the resources in our Resource display in the vestibule today: Catholic speakers on CD, books by some of the most engaging Catholic authors, short booklets on a wide variety of topics...there’s something for everyone. It is impossible to be grateful and unhappy at the same time. As we count our blessings we naturally find a sense of peace and contentment. Children learn that they are called to give back something to God. They also learn that they must let go of some of their own wants. Stewardship teaches children the difference between needs and wants. Children learn to concentrate on their blessings rather than on what they want. The idea of the children’s envelopes is not to raise more money but to teach children the joys of giving and helping. Thus, it is more important that children give a quarter from their own bank than $5 from a parent’s wallet. Children’s envelopes also encourage kids to share talent - a good deed or a prayer they have written - or to write down ways they have been good stewards. St. Joseph’s Preparatory H.S.
