out adult/teen winter reading program. There is nothing like a
good book on a cold winter night. For each book you read, you
will receive an entry into our final drawing for prizes. Adults and
teens can register in person or sign up online. Look for details

Youth services Winter Reading Program
Our Winter Reading Program is designed for children from
infant - 6th grade. Beginning Monday, December 22, you may
register in person at the YS Reference Desk to receive your
information packet and starting prize. Complete your reading
log by reading for just three hours. Turn in your log at the YS
Desk by Friday, February 13 to receive your final prize and be
entered into the Grand Prize Drawing.

Adopt-a-Magazine
December is Adopt-a-Magazine month at BPL. This is a great opportunity for
individuals, local businesses, and families to provide direct support for the
library. We will affix a name plate to the magazine you “adopt” to acknowledge
your gift. You can specify a particular magazine if you like, or just send a
donation and let us choose for you. There are many levels of participation. If
you are interested in making a tax deductible donation, please contact Julie
Keating at (630) 924-2733 for more information and a list of available titles.

Bel Sonore Chamber Ensemble

An impressive concert of flute, oboe, bassoon,
and soprano voice will perform a lovely
repertoire ranging from Bach to Duke Ellington.
Tom Sharpe World Music
Tuesday, February 10 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Tom Sharpe, classically trained musician and
drummer for the famed rock group STYX,
performs a percussive symphony and visual
feast for the senses.

A fun and lively performance of popular
American music will be performed by a trio
of experienced musicians showcasing a great
rockabilly era prior to the British invasion with
a focus on Sun Records.

Come share the history and life stories of Chicago’s greatest tragedy,
as we observe the 100th anniversary of the Eastland Disaster. This
centennial commemoration includes a compelling first-hand narrative

which lasts approximately 3.5 hours. Students will receive test results at the

bring pencils and a calculator.

class is intended for those with little to
no knowledge of computers and will
focus on the visual changes associated

Digital Media Lab: iMovie

Learn the basics of working with our
new digital media lab through a
brief explanation of each piece of
equipment and a demonstration of
movie creation using iMovie and the
lab’s digital camcorder.

creating and using spreadsheets.
Formatting, designing, and sorting
spreadsheets will be discussed along with
the first steps towards creating formulas
and using functions.

experience using Microsoft Word or any
word processors. Topics such as creating
and saving files, formatting, and editing
documents will be covered. There will be
time available for questions and specific

Studio

Get an introduction to the extensive tools
provided in the Adobe Design Studio.
Use programs like Acrobat, InDesign, and
Photoshop to creative professional level
publications, edit photographs, or update
your website. A brief tour of the resources
will be provided followed by extensive
open use time.

This class covers how to use many of
the more advanced options available.
Lecture includes using outlines, adding
images, and other formatting/design

Students learn how to use Microsoft
Word to create sharp, easily read and
understood resumes. They will also learn
how to create accounts on and perform
searches with job finding sites online like
LinkedIn, Hotjobs, and Monster.

If you enjoy astronomy; but the sky is
cloudy, an iPad can serve as an exciting
alternative. We will explore the universe
using a variety of the latest apps and
viewing techniques. Our Digital Media
Lab will allow you to see through the
clouds.

Every time a picture is taken, a letter is
written, or a song is purchased on your
computer a file goes somewhere. Learn
all about where these files are, how
to find them, copying, deleting, and
restoring them. A great class for anyone
with a lot of personal information or
pictures they’re worried about losing or
moving to a new computer.
