Discernment for Membership on the
Parish Pastoral Council
As we look toward the future, we need re-establish the parish
pastoral council. A brief description of the role of the council and
of the qualities needed in council members is included in this week’s
bulletin. I ask you to read the insert in this week’s bulletin and to
pray that God will inspire men and women to come forth to minister
in our parish as members of the parish pastoral council. More
details about the selection process will follow in the coming weeks.
A Prayer for the Pastoral Council Selection Process
Come, O Holy Spirit of the living God, and show us
your ways. Guide our parish discernment of those who
are called to the ministry of leadership in and through
the work of the parish pastoral council. Grant us
wisdom to know our gifts. Call us to put those gifts at
the service of your people. Give us zeal and holy
courage to respond generously to your invitation. And
grant your grace to all in our parish faith
communities as they seek to live out the mission of
Jesus. We pray this in his name, who with you and the
sustaining Father is one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Discernimiento para integrar el Consejo Pastoral Parroquial
Viendo hacia el futuro, necesitamos volver a establecer el consejo pastoral
parroquial.
responder generosamente a tu invitación.
Amen

MITIGATING GRIEF THROUGH PRIOR PLANNING
Death is an inevitable event most of
us do not want to face, but there are
things we can do today
(beforehand) that will help our families and loved ones when this reality occurs. To assist with this need,
we are sponsoring in St. Timothy
three Monday evening presentations on October 10,17 and 24,
2016 between 7:00 - 8:30pm. In the
GYM. Each will address a different aspect of these needs that will
be faced by our families and loved
ones when they are coping with
death. This prior planning on our
part can help to relieve the stress
and grief that they will inevitably
experience at that time.
The Topics are as follows:
October 10, 2016
“Prior Planning in legal and financial areas to mitigate the grief of loved ones”
Mr. Kendall Coffman, Esq.
October 17, 2016
“Prior Planning for a funeral and burial in the Catholic tradition to mitigate the
grief of loved ones”
Ms. Monica Williams, Director, Holy Cross Cemetery –Archdioceses of San Francisco
Mr. Rick Riffel, Funeral Director of Schneider and Sullivan
October 24, 2016
“Walking and surviving the path of Greif”
Sr. Toni Gallagher, RSM, Bereavement coordinator -Archdioceses of San Francisco
This is a Free Event!

Año Jubilar de la Misericordia
Jubilee Year of Mercy
Twenty third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Vigésimo tercero Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
“Si alguno quiere seguirme y. . . prefiere. .
“If anyone comes to me without hating . . . father and
mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and
even his [or her] own life” (Luke 14:26). Hating? Can
anyone imagine a less appropriate Gospel for the Jubilee Year of Mercy? But scholars call this Semitic hyperbole. Jesus exaggerates to jolt us into confronting lifechanging challenges. Faced with conflicting loyalties,
disciples must reorder priorities, even relationships, to
give Jesus and the gospel’s demands first place. Today’s second reading presents a real-life example. Paul
challenges his wealthy convert, Philemon, to welcome
back Philemon’s runaway slave, Onesimus, whom Paul
has baptized in prison. Not only with unconditional forgiveness but with a counter-cultural, world-shattering
change of status—as an equal. No, even more—a beloved brother in Christ. What in my life does the Jubilee Year of Mercy challenge me to “hate”—meaning
reform, redo, even utterly revamp—so I can give everyone, no conditions, no exceptions, shockingly Christlike love?
