Be not of this World for a Moment
The Dark Philosopher Collection Be not of this World for a Moment (with the Jägerbomb) By Hagur © July 2013 Skull Press PDF Edition, Gent, Belgium Be not of this World for a Moment Enjoy An Energy Drink mixed with Jägermeister Jägermeister is a type of liqueur called Kräuterlikör (herbal liqueur). It is similar to other European liqueurs, such as Gammel Dansk from Denmark, Unicum from Hungary, Becherovka from the Czech Republic, Demänovka from Slovakia and Pelinkovac from Croatia. In contrast to those beverages, Jägermeister has a sweeter taste. Jägermeister’s ingredients include 56 herbs, fruits, roots and spices including citrus peel, licorice, anise, poppy seeds, saffron, ginger, juniper berries and ginseng. These 2 ingredients are ground, then steeped in water and alcohol for 2–3 days. Afterwards, this mixture is filtered and stored in oak barrels for about a year. When a year has passed, the liqueur is filtered again, then mixed with sugar, caramel, alcohol and water. It is filtered one last time and then bottled. The producer recommends that Jägermeister be kept on ice and served cold and suggests that it be kept in a freezer at -18°C (0°F) or on tap between −15 °C (5 °F) and −11 °C (12 °F) Jägermeister does not contain any deer or elk blood. A shot glass of Jägermeister dropped into a glass of Cannabis Energy Drink, Red Bull energy drink, or other, makes a cocktail called a Jägerbomb. The Jägerbomb /The Jägerbomb is a bomb shot cocktail that was originally mixed by dropping a shot of Jägermeister into a glass of beer but in recent years has become more popular with Cannabis Energy or Red Bull or other energy drinks. In German-speaking countries, it is called a "Turbojäger" or a "Flying Hirsch" (Flying Stag) — where "Flying" is derived from the slogan "Red Bull gives you wings" and "Stag" originates in the Jägermeister logo. A long drink mixed with Jägermeister and Red Bull is called "JägerBull" as it is adopted from Jägermeister and RedBull. The effects of a Jägerbomb are similar to those of other drinks that contain both caffeine and alcohol. These effects are held to be different from those of strictly alcoholic drinks. This is attributed to the fact that caffeine has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system, whereas alcohol has a depressing effect. Consequently, some of the effects of alcohol intoxication are masked. However, caffeine does not affect the reduced motor coordination that is typically seen in intoxicated persons. A Brazilian study conducted in 2006 found that combining an energy drink and alcohol "appears to show us that the use of energy drinks might predispose people to abuse alcohol when its depressant effects — or at least the perception of such effects — are masked by them." Professor Roseli Boergnen de Lacerda, who conducted the study, also warned of another possible effect: "a higher risk of car accidents because [people who drank energy drinks with alcohol] felt less intoxicated than they were." How to make a Jager Bomb! Although a cocktail is actually a type of mixed drink, not every mixed drink is considered to be a cocktail. Cocktails often contain at least one type of flavoring or liquor, as well as sauces, fruit juices, milk, honey, spices, cream, etc. 3 The cocktail has been around for quite some time. The word was first printed in 1803, in “The Farmer’s Cabinet.” A few years later, in 1806, it was again recognized in print when its definition was described in Balance and Columbian Repository. Sazerac, a cognac-based drink known to be one of the earliest cocktails, dates back to the 1850s. Cocktails became popular in the prohibition era when mixing drinks was used as an acceptable way to hide the strong taste of bootleg spirits. Speakeasy bartenders would often mix the spirits with both non-alcoholic and alcoholic ingredients to create a tasty drink. Even after prohibition ended, cocktails still remained a bar staple. The skills and recipes created in illegal bars soon spread, and the 1930’s saw the drink becoming a trendy choice among bar patrons. Prior to the 1970s, most cocktails were created using rum, gin, and whiskey. Vodka was also used, but not as often. After that time, vodka became a more popular ingredient and even replaced the other liquors in well-known drinks. Today, cocktails are more popular than ever and come in a wide array of flavors, ranging from fruity to potent. Both men and women enjoy the variety of drinks that are available on bar menus worldwide. Recipe: 4 Ingredients 1 can(s) Energy Drink as the Cannabis Energy Drink or Red Bull, etc. 1 oz. Jagermeister or more along your taste Instructions Pour the Energy drink into a keg cup so that it will be level with the top of the shot glass full of Jägermeister dropped into the cup. Drink fast, enjoy. 5 Warning Despite the popularity of cocktails that mix energy drinks and alcohol, the combination can be dangerous if you don't prepare them responsibly. The stimulants in energy drinks and the depressants in alcohol make them seem like the perfect combination, but the reality is that combining these two beverages to excess may contribute to alcoholism or even cause unsafe heart palpitations. That does not necessarily mean that you can't mix the two -- doing it responsibly and in the right amounts is key. Tips (1) When mixing energy drink cocktails, always prepare them stirred, not shaken. Shaking the beverage agitates the carbonation and makes it fizz. (2) Since the caffeine in energy drinks suppresses the sensation of drunkenness, you must carefully monitor your alcohol consumption. Do not drink more than you usually would simply because the caffeine gives you the energy to do so. (3) Do not attempt mixing alcohol with energy drinks until you are familiar with how your body reacts to energy drinks alone -- if energy drinks make your heart race or makes you otherwise physically ill, do not mix them with alcohol. Recipes in different languages The Jager Bomb is originally a mixture of Red Bull and Jagermeister, both being popular products, although it's increasingly common for other energy drinks to be substituted for the RB. The caffeine-alcohol combination creates a unique "high" or at the very least, a counteract to the depressant of alcohol making you more aware, more energetic, and more active. 8 Remember well and Enjoy: 1. Pour the can of Red Bull into a highball glass. 2. Pour the Jägermeister into a shot glass. 3. Place the shot glass inside the highball glass.
