VFW Post 9644, Sheridan - August Newsletter
2680 W. Hampden Ave Englewood, CO 80110 Phone: 303-789-9733 Veterans of foreign wars august 2016 From the Commander We are still dealing with the aftermath of the situation at the post, but we are making headway. By the time you receive this news letter we should be enjoying having the gas hooked up again. We are getting close to a new season of events. We are going to need a lot of help with the meals and other events. I ask that all of us do our part in making this a prosperous time for the post. A great time to get an up-date on the progress of the construction is to attend the monthly General Meeting. Ron Davies, Ron Newlander and Don McNeely will be giving the progress of what is going on. I want to give a hearty thank you to all who went to visit Les Williams. He was very happy to see all of us. Just in case you don't know, he turned 97 years young on the 8th of July. To look at him and to talk to him you wouldn't know it. We are going to see if we can bring him to the post for the grand opening. He would enjoy that very much. Let’s all continue to visit Les from time to time. It would make his day. As your new Post Commander, I want to thank everyone for the support I am receiving. I will do the best possible job I can to make this a banner year for the post. Again with the help of all of us "We can Do This". Thank you all for all you do. That is what we are all about. Sincerely, Paul LeVeque Post Commander “One Team, One Mission” PURPLE HEART DAY AUGUST 7TH Remember to thank our Veterans! From the Auxiliary President I want to start by saying it is an honor to be your President for another year. We accomplished some great things last year and hope to be able to do even more this year. We can not do it without your support. Less than 10% of our membership attends meetings on a regular basis or helps with events or programs. We can't do it all without your help. Please, come be part of our family. As in any family, we don't always get along. We go through times where we are offended or hurt by others. Yet, we have a greater cause to think about here. Our organization is here to help veterans and their families of which you are a part. Please come back, we need you, we love you and we want to hear what you have to say. This past year we have made strides in pulling our family together. We are "ONE TEAM" with "ONE MISSION", that being the welfare of all. Your opinion does matter and we want to hear it. I hope during this coming year we will be able to pull together and do many more things to bring unity within the walls of our post. Sincerely, Concetta Kile Auxiliary President "One Team, One Mission" From the Auxiliary Treasurer Beginning January 1, 2017 dues for lifetime members will be increasing significantly. After much discussion, our President and I have agreed to let any annual member who wishes to become a life member make payments towards their membership. We will set aside your payments in your name. You can choose to pay whatever you can afford each month. Dues must be received in full no later than December 1, 2016. Life member conversion must be received by National before December 15, 2016. If payments are not completed by due date, we will refund the balance in your account. Dues for annual members will increase to $30.00 for existing members and $35.00 for new members. Debra Blesh Auxiliary Treasurer Western Welcome Week Parade August 20th, No Later Than 9:00 AM Meet on Gallup South of Littleton Blvd. From the Senior Vice Commander We have now completed our first month of the New Year… at least the VFW New Year. We have had some of our most active members step down from the rat race of keeping the post on an even keel. We are quickly learning just how much we don’t know and how much they did to keep us going. We are up for the challenge and are “drinking from the fire hose” in order to absorb as much information as possible in the least amount of time. We have made a commitment to all of the members of 9644 that we will do everything possible to support you and all of the veterans we are here to serve. One of the most important pieces to accomplish this is to have good communication. I have picked up most of the responsibility for that. We have the TV monitor in the post that displays upcoming events and some of the special things happening with our membership. This newsletter is another avenue to ensure we keep our membership abreast of everything we are doing. If you have anything you would like to put in the newsletter, it must be submitted to me by the 20 th of each month. The newsletter is sent via email, however if you would like to receive the newsletter in the US Mail, you will need to let me know. The cost will be $10 per year. This will cover printing costs and postage. I will also be sending out the email blasts as reminders of special events. I promise I won’t bury you in email. I will try to keep it fewer than two per week. If you have not been receiving email communication from me, please leave your full name, phone number and email address with the bartender or email me and ask to be placed on the VFW Membership Distribution List. Call the post at the number listed at the top of the front page to get my email address. We would love to get to know you, so come on down to one of our special events or better yet, come join us on meeting night, the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm. We are a “Team” united in our “Mission”, of serving as many veterans and their families as we are able. Thank you for the confidence you have placed in me. Respectfully, Greta Bleau Senior Vice Commander "One Team, One Mission" — Planning Meeting — August 5th, 6:00 pm Do you have an idea for something new? We will be planning our meals and events for September thru December. Come and share your inspirations. From the Mens Auxiliary President Well, here I am again. It has been 4 years since my last term as President – how time flies. I hope everyone is having a great summer. We had our annual 4th of July picnic. It was a great success, great food, games and lots of new faces. I hope you all had a good time. Thank you to those who helped, you know who you are. It is more fun when everyone helps out so just a few don’t have to do it all. Thanks Again. It’s time to start thinking about our Friday Night Dinners, Sunday Breakfasts and Tuesday Night Burgers. It is right around the corner – September, not far off! So, as always, we will be asking for your help. Think about it – the same people have been doing it for years! Get involved and help out. That is it for now, I hope to see you soon. Carl Maschka Men’s Auxiliary President From the Warriors For those of you that do not know me, my name is David Bleau. I have been a Post 9644 member for 15 years. I have been the post and District 10 “VFW Warriors Motorcycle Organization” chairman since they adopted the program in 2008. Recently, VFW Colorado State Commander Allen Stone, appointed me as the State Warriors Chairman. It is an honor for me to proudly represent an active and highly visible organization that supports and serves the VFW, American Veterans, their families and community. The VFW Warriors are not a motorcycle club but a group of like minded Post Veterans and auxiliary members who have a strong honor, loyalty, pride, selfless service, and esprit de corps. This “family of Warriors” enjoys the camaraderie that is only found when a person serves a greater cause then themselves. Please use the Warriors program as a recruiting tool for new membership. A lot of veterans share this common interest but have never been asked to join the VFW or know there is a Warriors organization. Feel free to contact me about the requirements to become part of this great organization. Thank you to all the membership of the Post and auxiliaries’ for making a difference and make Post 9644 great.
