The Assumption
of the Blessed
Virgin Mary
This feast is a very
old solemnity in
the Church. It has
been celebrated
throughout the
Church from the
sixth century on.
Originally
celebrated in the
East, the ancient
title is the
Dormition of
Mary, or the
Falling Asleep of
Mary. The earliest
writing we find of
this feast is from
the fourth century
and it is written in
the voice of
St. John, whom
Jesus entrusted
Mary to the care of
as He hung upon
the cross.
St. Therese Lay Carmelite Community
Looking for something and you are not
sure what? Are you wanting intimacy
with God, a deeper way of prayer?
Perhaps you are being called to Carmel.
We’re lay Catholic people who belong to
the secular branch of the Carmelite
Order. Our community meetings are
currently held at St. Vincent DePaul
Church in Wildwood.
If you think the Carmelite way might be for you, please
contact Jackie Harig at 352.446.0445 or
May Fischer at 352.771.1084.
Through Carmelite studying, prayer and insight, your life
will be transformed.
The August 20-21 second collection is held on behalf of the
Florida Catholic ministry. The ministry depends on the
generosity of those who want to support Catholic
communications and evangelization. Your support of the Florida Catholic is greatly appreciated. Watch for the
opportunity to subscribe or renew in the fall. Tammy Osborne, Circulation Coordinator

The Eucharist—A universal
Language.
As a Minister to the Sick who
serves in the hospital ministry,
I asked, what could God possibly
have in store that can top the love and deep feeling of His
Presence? It became obvious when a patient from India who neither
spoke nor understood English, upon viewing the elevated Eucharist,
immediately folded his hands and bowed his head in prayer. He
then enfolded my hands in his as he said a prayer of
thanksgiving. What proof that when God is present and our hearts
are open to the Universal Language of His Love, verbal
communication is not necessary. For information about the
Ministry to the Sick, please call our office @ 728-5652.
Did you know that the Bereavement

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Do you feel the Holy Spirit gently leading you to learn more
about the Catholic faith?
Do you belong to another faith tradition and have questions about
Catholicism? Searching for answers?
Please consider joining our RCIA group.
Gatherings are informal and your friend, spouse or fiancé is
welcome to join you if you would like them to. Through weekly
group gatherings, faith is deepened in both small and large group
sharing. You will be supported on the journey by parish sponsors,
faith-filled parishioners who are eager to share their own faith
journey with you. The teachings of Jesus and our Church, along
with Scripture, are all part of the content of the gatherings.
Any adult interested in becoming a Catholic is invited to
walk
a journey of faith
that leads to full initiation into the Catholic Church. Full initiation
involves the celebration of the sacraments of Baptism,
Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.
Won’t you join us?

The Council of Catholic Women is preparing for
the new year.
First Meeting—September 8
Ladies of our parish, this ministry is for you.
Our mission is to bring all women of the parish
together to support, empower and educate in
spirituality, leadership and service.
Our mission is also to aid and assist St. Paul’s
pastor in any manner he deems necessary.
Last year our goal was dedicated to the building fund
and in June we presented Father Mark with a donation
of $3,000.
This year will be challenging for all during
construction, with Our Lady of Good Counsel to
guide us as we look forward to the coming year.
Watch the bulletin for further information.
Come join us!
For more information, contact Joan Woodson at
352.321.4043.
Parents & Guardians Be
Vigilant
School is back in session. It is
important that you attend school
meetings and review all books
and materials your children
receive, especially in public schools. An abridged
version of a job description for a Planned Parenthood
Regional Health Coordinator reads: Under the
guidance of the Director of Education, identify target
school districts, ... engage and mobilize community
activists and financial supporters who want to move
Planned Parenthood’s vision forward.
PP’s “Teen Advocates for Sexual Health” has a
curriculum that includes illegal referrals for
abortion. Counsel your children to also be aware.
Pray to their Guardian Angels.
The Novena at Mass on Wednesday, 8/17, is for a
Papal Intention.
