Can you join us for Mass one day? Jesus is waiting for
you to experience His love and mercy!
Dear Friends,
One of my favorite sayings from the
Talmud (ancient Jewish writings) is: The
righteous Jew blessed God one hundred times a
day. In other words, the person of faith thanks
God one hundred times a day. I suppose that can
seem overwhelming to us and perhaps that it
would take a lot of time as well. Yet in truth, it
may not be as difficult as we think.
In the Gospel this weekend only one of
the ten men healed of leprosy returns to say
thank you to Jesus. Perhaps the other nine
would come later or send a note to Jesus, but in
this moment it is only one who returns. Why?
He had the “attitude of gratitude” that is so
pleasing to God. He was the kind of person who
was seeking to bless God one hundred times a day
so when the miraculous cleansing occurred his
first thought was not – let me go show my wife,
let me go home, let me celebrate – but let me give
thanks.
Thanksgiving is a little more than six
weeks away but in truth it is today. Why?
Because today is a day of blessing so it must also
be a day to give thanks. First of course, give
thanks to God for life, health, your home, your
family, your successes and even your struggles,
weaknesses and failures through which God is
doing something. Second, give thanks to all you
encounter this week. Maybe even go out of your
way to say thank you and express gratitude. I
recently thanked a woman for her many years of
service to the State of Pennsylvania as a
caseworker. She rejoiced and told me she had
never been thanked before. Make someone’s day
by returning like the man in the Gospel and say
thanks!

Saint Teresa of Ávila (also called Saint Teresa of
Jesus) was born March 28, 1515 in Spain and
died October 4, 1582. Her feast day is this
Saturday, October 15. She was a nun, one of the
great mystics and religious women of the Roman
Catholic Church, and author of spiritual classics.
She was the originator of the Carmelite Reform,
which restored and emphasized the austerity
and contemplative character of primitive
Carmelite life. St. Teresa was elevated to doctor
of the church in 1970 by Pope Paul VI, the first
woman to be so honored. Why not take a few
minutes to go online and read more about this
courageous woman who had a HUGE impact on
the Church?

EVENING
BIBLE
STUDY
ON
WEDNESDAYS
Every Wednesday evening we will be studying
Saint Peter. Peter was a surprising choice by
Jesus to lead the first generation of the Church,
perhaps a proof of God’s grace and mercy for us
all! We will gather each Wednesday thru Nov.
16th from 7:30pm to 9pm (after faith sharing
groups) to study Peter in the Gospels, in his own
writings and in other New Testament books. No
experience needed and no cost at all! Invite a
friend and be ready to be encouraged and
inspired!
Ignorance of Scripture is Ignorance of Christ!
-St. Jerome
