Thank you CHS – National Honor Society Dear Junior Parents, Recently your son/daughter met with our Student Services team to receive their PSAT results. In that meeting they linked their College Board account to their Khan Academy account. Khan Academy is an online resource that provides video lessons and practice for the important academic skills measured by the SAT. Based on their PSAT results, your student now has a tutoring program through Khan Academy that is specific to their needs. This will allow them to spend time on their own, improving their math and literacy skills. Please encourage your son/daughter to use Khan Academy to better prepare for the SAT test in April. We recommend having them show you their Khan Academy account and the tools it provides. If you have any questions about how Khan Academy works, please feel free to contact our Student Services department at (616) 891-0214. Go to the website to fill out an application at: www.burggrabemasonry.com Resources for Students and Parents in the College Shopping Process Compare schools using the College Score Card. (https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/?ep_mid=11178908&ep_rid=37517578) Students can narrow down their school choices using individual preferences and the results will not only give you admissions requirements but financial aid resources including expected costs by family incomes. The Financial Aid Shopping Sheet (PDF) (https://www.ifap.ed.gov/eannouncements/attachments/ShoppingSheetTemplate2015201 6.pdf) is a consumer tool that participating institutions will use to notify students about their financial aid package. It is a standardized form that is designed to simplify the information that prospective students receive about costs and financial aid so that they can easily compare institutions and make informed decisions about where to attend school. Consider completing the FAFSA worksheet (https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/sites/default/files/2015-16-fafsaworksheet.pdf?ep_mid=11178908&ep_rid=37517578) before filling out the online form. It will make the process much easier. More questions? Contact your student's counselor or better yet, call a local college or university's financial aid office. They welcome your questions now as it tends to make things easier for them down the road when potential problems may arise. Both Parent and Student need an FSA ID. Getting an FSA ID You’ll need an FSA ID, a username and password combination that allows you to sign your FAFSA electronically. Your FSA ID also can be used to sign loan contracts and to access certain information online. You can get your FSA ID as you fill out the FAFSA, but you also have the option to get it ahead of time. Find out how to get an FSA ID (https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid) and what to do if you forgot your FSA ID. Schloarship $$ Scholarship $$ Scholarship $$ For complete list of scholarships, please go to the Caledonia Student Service Blog at the following link to see the list: http://www.caledoniahighschoolstudentservices.blogspot.com/ **Please note: if the link does not work, you may have to copy and paste the link address in your browser. UPCOMING STANDARDIZED TEST DATES **Special note – Juniors will be taking the SAT on April 12th here at school. Counselors are encouraging students to take the ACT as well. (you would need to go to the ACT site to register on your own) This is because the SAT is “new” and colleges are adjusting to new score scales for admissions and scholarships. The ACT has been in place for several years and scores are already established. Taking both may be beneficial for your student when applying to colleges and for scholarships. After taking the SAT in April, students who want to improve their scores may sign up on their own to take the test again.
