If interested please contact, Mr. Jerry Keron at 8918129 or email keronj@calschools.org On November 2nd the Caledonia Women’s Club and Fifth Third Bank awarded Trenten Beemer, Emma Houser and Kirsten Peek the annual MyLead Leadership scholarship. MyLead Camp happens in June each year. Students from all over Michigan attend this leadership camp to make new friends and learn about leadership and bring it back to their schools. Louisville, KY Members of the Caledonia FFA Chapter traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, during the last week of October to participate in an onceinalifetime event. The students, ranging in ages from 15 to 20 years, participated in the 88th National FFA Convention and Expo. FFA is a national youth organization of over 630,000 student members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture and natural resources. Young people participate in FFA programs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Each year, more than 60,000 FFA members, educators and supporters gather to exchange ideas, compete in national events and celebrate the lifechanging impact of FFA and agricultural education. This year, the national convention was particularly exciting. Those in attendance reflected on speeches delivered by worldrenowned leaders such as Dr. Rick Risbee, as well as learn about scholarships, career opportunities and professional networking all made possible through the convention experience. FFA programs continue to create highly successful young adults ready to make a positive difference in the world. Local chapter members hold fundraisers in order to provide for expenses relating to the trip. While in Louisville, they attended educational workshops, gathered career and college information at the 560,000 squarefoot FFA National Agricultural Career Show, learned from industry leaders and exchanged experiences with other young people across the nation. The Caledonia FFA chapter was recognized in the 2015 National Chapter Award Program from the National FFA Organization. The program recognizes outstanding FFA chapters from throughout the country that successfully complete an annual set of required activities that encourage members to grow as individuals, work as a team and serve others in their communities. These FFA chapters received honors made possible by corporate sponsor John Deere as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. “Feeding some 9 billion people by midcentury brings with it unprecedented challenges for today’s farmers,”said Amy Allen, manager, national corporate contributions for John Deere. “The skills and experiences learned though the National Chapter Awards programs will help meet the critical needs.” The Caledonia chapter earned a threestar award that represents the top five percent of FFA chapters in the nation. Caledonia had five members recognized for their individual achievements as well. Clayton Rogers, Hailey Goble, Alexandria Schut, Tagg Huver and Kailee Whitcomb earned the American FFA Degree, the highest level ofmembership awarded by the FFA Organization. The American Degree is earned by less than half of a percent of all FFA members. The Caledonia FFA Alumni & Boosters was recognized by the National FFA Alumni as a National Outstanding Silver Award Affiliate of 2015 which represents the top 15 affiliates in the nation. The Caledonia FFA Alumni supports the FFA Chapter by providing financial assistance and human resources by assisting with the annual scholarship auction, coaching leadership teams, mentoring, providing scholarships and assisting with FFA trips. Upcoming College Rep Visits Juniors & Seniors: Fall is a great time to meet the college reps and gather information about each college you are considering to attend. This year we are implementing a more strict policy to sign up for a college rep visit. We will advertise the dates on our blog, in the announcements, and in Scots Update. It is up to the student to check with their teacher to be sure they can miss the 45-60 minutes of class to attend the visit. Also, we are requiring that students sign up at least two days in advance of the scheduled visit to alleviate the last minute rush. This will allow us to prepare passes and schedule a room to accommodate the number of students we are expecting. Your cooperation will be appreciated! Be sure to sign up in Student Services TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE in order to have a pass out of class. We will be using Remind 101 this year, so when you sign up, please pick up the flyer with the phone number for that particular visit.
