August Board Meeting Minutes
Todd Bradrick presented minutes from the
August board meeting. Frank Niccoli

Michael Gladden presented the Treasurer’s
Report from the August board meeting.

State Liason
•Larry Rohlfes, interim executive director,
is asking for contributions for LandPAC.
•February 12, 2015 is the date for the new
Landscape Industry Show North. We will
be partnering with NorCal.
•The San Francisco Flower and Garden
Show has new owners and would like
CLCA to participate.
•Sandra Giarde has been hired as CLCA’s
new executive director.
•It was suggested that a LEAF scholarship
be established for Sharon McGuire. Frank
motioned the chapter allocate $1000 for
the fund. Barry Cohen seconded the
amended motion. Motion passed.
•Current chapter LEAF fund are not fully
funded due to funding of honorariums.
•The annual convention is November 13-16.
James Walker suggested sponsoring a
couple of Foothill students to attend.
Foothill Hort Club
•Jackie is organizing the Landscape
Contractors’ Forum at Foothill College on
November 19.
•Larry Scott and Mary Cohen were asked
to attend the October 23, Student Mixer to
introduce students to CLCA and LEAF.
•Judy Fulton and James Walker have been
working on a program called “Pathway to
Work” with the objective of bringing
students into CLCA.
Golf Tournament
Ninty-seven people have signed up for the
tournament. 104 spots are available.
SFFGS Booth
James Walker asked the board whether the
booth was worthwhile.
Garden Tour
Astrid Gaiser will help with the 2014
Garden Tour.
Awards
•Barry Cohen is following up on unpaid
awards sponsorships.
•The Decathlon Club needs to be booked
and the deposit paid soon if the chapter
wishes to use the venue in 2014.

November is my favorite
month! The weather is
getting colder, so big
hearty meals warm us
and provide comfort to
our souls. It is a nice time
to see friends before all of
the holiday running around takes over
people’s lives. Speaking of food and
friends... there are some CLCA events
coming up that no one should miss!
I hope to see you all at the Chapter’s
Installation Night on November 7. This is
the event where we can say hello and
thank you to the officers of our Chapter
Board and the Auxiliary’s Board who have
served in 2013. We will also welcome in
the new officers for 2014! Don’t miss this
opportunity to recognize our chapter’s
leadership.

too! I have been planning a very tasty,

LEAF Scholarships
Recently Awarded
Since 1988, CLCA has been recognizing
exemplary academic achievement by
awarding scholarships to students who have
achieved excellence in their fields of study.
In 2013, CLCA granted a total of $18,850 to
14 students pursuing horticulture degrees at
California colleges and universities. The
scholarships have been funded through
CLCA’s (LEAF) Landscape Educational
Advancement Foundation. The following
students received one or several of the SFBA
Chapter sponsored scholarships.
•Austin Bradrick of Mountain View, a senior
at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
•Max Sheehan of San Jose is a student at Cal
Poly, San Luis Obispo.
•Samuel Anders DeFever of Los Gatos is a

Involved with Hort Club

The days are getting shorter and the nights
are getting cooler, but the Hort Club is just
warming up. Our first Hort Club Kick-Off
event is scheduled for October 23, at 5 p.m.
at Foothill College, Room 8609. Frank
Niccoli and Larry Scott will inform Foothill
students on the benefits of CLCA. Mary
Cohen will get us all up to speed on the
requirements of the LEAF scholarships.
We have monthly events scheduled
throughout the year. Our CLCA friends are
invited to attend and participate. We
particularly need folks willing to share their
expertise for the Landscape Contractor and
11:30 a.m. at Foothill College, Room 8607. If
you are interested in attending or
