He was named the Agribusiness Person of the Year at the Midstate Fair with many accolades for his years of service to the agriculture industry. That was followed by an insert in the Tribune dedicated to more accolades about Jim’s long and successful career with Farm Supply as well as his service on many boards and committees. At Old Mission, we know Jim in another role as a faithful communicant at the 7 am Mass and a Eucharistic Minister to inmates at the County Jail and other shut-ins. Innumerable people have been blessed, not only by the spiritual sustenance of those visits, but the caring attention of this special man. Thank you, Jim -- you are an outstanding representative of the Old Mission community and a shining example of Pope Francis’s Year of Mercy. “May all the attractions of a changing world serve only to bring us the peace of your kingdom which this world does not give.” -Alternative Opening Prayer for the Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time 781-8220 26 Fr. Sister Mary Jerome’s nephew Mike works for Catholic Relief Services. This is an organization that helps people throughout the world. Mr. Mike came to Sister’s class and told the story of a village in the country of Burkina Faso, which is in Africa. The story is about a girl named Sylvie and how her village needed water. Sylvie is unable to attend school because it takes her several hours every day to collect the water her family needs. In this Gospel we read that the door is narrow, that not many people will get through it, and once it’s shut, there’s no opening it again. One way that scholars interpret this passage is that it was geared for the religious leaders of Jesus’ time. They were fairly confident that they were among God’s chosen people and just because of who they were, they were automatically entitled to enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus came to be sure all people had a chance to enter the door of heaven. Many other people, according to Jesus, would enter before the arrogant leaders. Reflection question: Adult: What daily choices are you making that will allow you to be recognized at the doorway of the Reign of God? Child: What good habits are you practicing in order to be a good Christian? Gracias.
