Sermon Series: Scriptures that...Aren’t
Starting today through September 6 we will study common sayings and colloquial
wisdom which really do not have their home in the Bible: “Cleanliness is Next
to Godliness,” “Money is the Root of All Evil,” and “God Helps Those Who Help
Themselves.”
2015 Greathouse Summer Intern Forum
Each year, First Church provides summer employment via the Greathouse Internship
Program. This summer our interns Josh Hauser and Jeffrey Brittain are working for
the United Methodist Oregon-Idaho Conference and Willamette Watershed Agency
respectively. Sunday, August 30th, Josh and Jeffrey will share with the congregation a
brief description of their experience, what they did and learned, and how it changed
their thinking about social justice issues.
Interested in Christian Education or Newcomer Welcoming? Three teams charged
with these very important areas of the church have vacancies and are looking for
passionate people to participate!
- Adult Ministries team meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm in the Library. They discern educational opportunities, small group offerings, and retreats for adults and senior adults at FUMC.
- Newcomer’s Team hosts First Church Orientations every other month. By signing up, we’ll see how you can help out! Our next Orientation is October 4th.
- Supper Group Captains coordinate 2-3 suppers in the Fall with people in their area. These are great ways to get to know newcomers and also find out what you have in common with folks close by you!

GOOD NEWS! An anonymous donor has stepped forward and issued a “Challenge” Grant to
help us pay for the Sanctuary Renovation project. They will match our gifts up to $100,000!
