He tells the parable of the wealthy landowner who, upon yielding an exceptionally profitable harvest one year, determines that he will live the rest of his days in relaxation; to eat, drink and be merry. God calls the miser a “fool” and lets him know that his greed and self-indulgence will not bring him the security he seeks. Good stewards acknowledge that the money and possessions entrusted to them are to be used to further the mission of Jesus Christ. This week let us reflect on our own daily consumption habits. Do we spend money on articles that make us better ambassadors of Christ? Does our personal lifestyle bring “good news to the poor” (Luke 4:18)? EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Saint Vincent’s Corner In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable about the rich man who selfishly stored all his grain and goods only to die and not enjoy his abundance anyway. What we struggle all our lives to learn is that life does not consist of possessions nor our perceived security, but of being possessed by God. This week, as you give your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to help the struggling poor, ask for the grace to be truly “possessed by God”. Please remember our food collection boxes where you can place non-perishable items and plastic grocery sacks. The demand is very high during the summer. The Pro-Life Place The Sidewalk Ministry, the helpers of God’s precious infants, invites us to attend the next Austin Prayer Vigil as our outward sign of love for life. Mass will be held on August 17, Saturday, at 7 a.m. at St. Paul Parish located at 10,000 David Moore Dr., Austin 78748, to be followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for those who wish to stay and pray. Special prayer manuals will be provided. After Mass a car caravan will proceed to the Austin Women’s Health Center at 1902 South IH-35 to pray the Rosary before returning to the parish for Benediction at 10:30 a.m. Frequent Numbers/ Numeros Frequentes PASTORAL CARE Liturgy Divorce & Beyond Bereavement Ministry Hospital Visit (English) Hospital Visit (Español) Homebound (English) Homebound (Spanish) Nursing Home Ministry Debbie George Debbie George Debbie George Mary DiBonito Martha Estrada Mary Cavett Martha Estrada Azucena Overman 600-8158 600-8158 600-8158 934-3235 417-8722 388-0016 417-8722 627-6423 SPIRITUAL LIFE Eucharist Adoration Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Grace Estatua Peregrina Praise & Worship Prayer Line Parish Bible Study Legion of Mary Karina Hernandez Debbie Davis Rosie Russi Les & Gabriele Miller Joan A. Faith and life belong together. The church calls this integrity of heart: that your life, your priorities and your calendar reflect your faith. How does your faith inspire you at home, in the workplace, and in your social activities? In what ways does the use of your gifts demonstrate your faith in Christ? CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING More than any other of the evangelists, Luke is concerned about greed and materialism. In today’s Gospel we hear one of the parables of Jesus regarding greed. What does it profit us to hoard? The readings invite us to contemplate what we really need and what is too much. Each of us needs to discern this according to our consciences and circumstances. What are the riches that will last? Not material possessions, but love and relationships and particularly for Christians, love and care for the poor and vulnerable. This is the treasure that will last! Close to 600 in attendance and nearly $20,000 raised! Fr. Dean celebrated his 25 year ordination anniversary with family, friends, and brother priests on July 23 during an anniversary mass. The celebration continued with a fundraiser at the Dell Diamond with close to 600 parishioners in attendance and featuring food, beverages, and an exciting game by the Round Rock Express on July 29.
