Today we celebrate the feast of the Ascension of our Lord, a
feast which, in part, celebrates the confidence he placed in
his close followers to continue his ministry. In the Gospel
reading, Jesus reminds his followers of the purpose of his
mission, and commissions them to continue his work by
proclaiming his word and by living courageously that which
they preached. He also promises them the Holy Spirit who he
said would strengthen them for the task ahead. As stewards
of Jesus’ life and ministry, a good question for us to reflect on
this week might be this: Has Christ’s confidence in the
quality of our own witness been well placed?

SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
Saint Vincent’s Corner
Today, as we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on
earth continues through his disciples…and now through us.
When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts, into our lives and
into the hearts of those who are poor.

As we await Pentecost, the Scriptures this week
invite us to ponder these questions:

Are we a community who lives the love and unity
for which Jesus prayed?


Like Stephen, are we courageous witnesses of
the risen Jesus and the Holy Spirit?

A Message from the Pastor
Fall Festival & Oktoberfest
As most of you heard at the end of Mass today, next year Saint William will only
have one festival in the Spring. Many things led to this decision…your great
response to the increased offertory appeal (our offertory increased over 18%),
the success of this year’s Spring Fiesta, and the Knights of Columbus’
dedication and success in honoring their financial commitment to Saint William. I want to thank the Knights of Columbus for all of their hard work on the
Fall Festival these past years. They deserve a break! Though there may not be
a Fall Festival, the Oktoberfest dinner and auction will still take place on October
5th. We are hoping to grow this event to a substantial fundraiser for Saint
William. If you are interested in donating an item, gift certificate, trip, or tickets to
a sporting event to the auction please contact Ana-Cristina at development@saintwilliam.org. We are also in need of committee members. Please
consider joining this fun group that will begin meeting this summer.
compromiso financiero a Saint William.

Porta Fidei app for smartphones and tablets
With the announcement of the Year of Faith, dioceses and publishers have developed a host of resources for use in parish and school settings. One of the
resources available for personal use comes to us from the Pontifical Council for
the Promotion of the New Evangelization. It is the Porta Fidei app for
smartphones and tablets and it is wonderful! It offers the user the chance to read
the pope’s speeches and his Wednesday catechesis sessions. Daily meditations
are available from the collection of works on the Creed by Benedict XVI. There
are tabs for items to deepen one’s faith, to examine the teachings of the Church,
to understand the beliefs proclaimed in the Creed, and much more. The application invites the user to prayer and meditation on what it means to be a disciple of
Christ. It is an app worth having and using as we continue to celebrate the Year
of Faith and participate in the Pope’s call to the New Evangelization. It is free and
available in many languages. Visit www.play.google.com/store
