SUMMER FUN AT

Pick up a FBCO
Summer Events Schedule.
Don’t miss out on what’s
happening at YOUR church!
LEADERSHIP COUNCIL will
meet next Sunday, July 3, at
4:30 p.m. in Room 210.
JULY DEVOTIONALS AND
MAGAZINES are available
on the table outside the church
office.
I Believe in the Tithe
Next Sunday, July 3, will be “I Believe in
the Tithe Sunday.” On this day, all families
are encouraged to come forward and place
their tithe in the baskets that will be down
front. If you are not comfortable doing this,
please turn in your tithe during the Sunday
School hour. Also, online giving is available.
Go to our website and follow the directions.
To tithe is to give ten percent of our income
to God for His work. God provides for His
people through His people. All that we have
is a gift from God; therefore, a tithe is a
mere portion of what He has already given
to us. Malachi 3:10, “Bring the whole tithe
into the storehouse, (the modern equivalent
of which would be channeling one’s gifts
and contributions through a local church)
that there may be food in my home. Test me
in this says the Lord Almighty, and see if I
will not throw so much blessing that you
will not have room enough for it.”
Vacation Bible School
If you received a letter that your child responded to the plan of salvation during VBS,
please contact the church office. I would
welcome the opportunity to sit down with
you and your child and discuss this very important matter.
Something to Ponder
When George Washington took the oath of
office to become the United States first President, he followed the scripted words until
the very last phrase. The first-ever Chief Executive swore to “faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States.”
He then added the unplanned words that
have been repeated ever since, “So help me
God.” In that moment he acknowledged
what we all must come to realize and declare: “Apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). (God Issues, Center for
Informed Faith, 7/5/11)
Sermon Series
Tonight we will continue our series entitled Seeking A nswers to Tough Questions.
The question we will ask comes from “The
Ancient World,” how was it possible for
men to live hundreds of years before the
flood. The following week, July 3, we will
ask, “Was the flood local or universal?”
Next Sunday in the morning service we
will continue our study from The Joshua
Code. Our focus will be John 11:25, “ Life’s
Bottom-Line Question.”
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your
Pastor. If you should ever need me, please
call.

It is our desire for every person to become a disciple of Jesus Christ who loves God and people.
We believe this happens best in a biblical community in which people are learning God’s Word,
sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, ministering to each other, and serving together. At FBC,
Sunday School allows you to connect with people in a similar season of life as you seek
to live a lifestyle that looks more and more like Jesus. Join us on Sundays at 9 a.m. to find a
class that is right for you. For more info, pick up a Sunday School brochure in the vestibule
or outside the church office. Questions? Call 205-625-3191 or email laneia@oneontafbc.org
Thank you for your faithfulness! I am excited to
see new people attending our church and Sunday School every Sunday. Let’s stay fired up
and continue talking about First Baptist Oneonta. When we are excited during football season, we talk about football. So similarly, if God
is working in our lives, we should be excited
and sharing that with others! I want to thank
every person in a leadership position in Sunday
School. I pray that God will bless you richly
because of your faithfulness.
Please pray for Kathy and me as we are in
Tennessee a few days, but we will be back in
our spot next week.
