FR. DOUG ANNOUNCES NEW STAFF
APPOINTMENT
I am very pleased to announce that Jim Polhamus will be
joining our staff on July 1st, serving as Liturgical
Coordinator. This is an important new focus for St.
Thomas and I know Jim will do a tremendous job.
This part-time position will serve to assist in
coordinating functions including Extraordinary Ministers
of Holy Communion, Lectors, Ushers, Servers, and
Sacristans. In this new position, Jim will be preparing
and updating policies and manuals, as well as
coordinating training for ministry volunteers, and
maintaining a current data base for all ministries. He
will work closely with the pastor and associate pastor,
the liturgical scheduler, and the parish staff.
As Liturgical Coordinator, Jim will also provide
management and oversight of the St. Thomas
columbarium, including records, policies, and grounds.
As a volunteer, he supervised the construction of the
columbarium in 2005, and has administered it since.
Jim and his wife, Faye, moved from Maryland to
Tennessee in 1997. His extensive service at St. Thomas
the Apostle during the past seventeen years has
included serving as Sacristan, Lector, Extraordinary
Minister of Holy Communion, and Altar Server. He also
served as Chairman of the Church Design Committee for
our new church.
Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Jim as
Liturgical Coordinator.

NOVEMBER, 2014 BALLOT QUESTION
ON ABORTION
In November, Amendment 1 will state:
Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects
a right to abortion or requires the funding of an
abortion. The people retain the right through
their elected state representatives and state
senators to enact, amend, or repeal statutes
regarding abortion, including, but not limited to,
circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape
or incest or when necessary to save the life of
the mother.
Because of a radical 4 to 1 ruling by the Tennessee
Supreme Court in 2000, TN now boasts a broader right
to abortion than that recognized by Roe v. Wade or the
U.S. Constitution. In 2008, 23.7% of abortions were
sought by women residing out-of-state. "YES on 1" is a
non-profit pro-life group that is helping to spread the
word and educate TN residents about this important
ballot measure. Please look for future information
about this in the bulletin. www.yeson1tn.org

MAINTENANCE COLLECTION IN JUNE
In June, we are having our annual collection for parish
maintenance needs. This year’s collection will be used
to help pay for our new maintenance building. Upon
receiving excellent feedback on our drawings, minor
changes to the design were made, resulting in a
projected cost of $40,000.
We are grateful for your support of the Capital
Collection in January which fully funded our new
security system. However, that collection was not
sufficient to pay for the maintenance building.
Please prayerfully consider donating to this year’s
maintenance collection. If you are an envelope user, you
have an envelope in your June supply. If you would like
to give online, you may do so by going to the Maintenance
Fund giving opportunity on the WeShare site which is
accessible from our website, www.sthomaslc.com

CELEBRACIÓN Y MISA DEL DÍA
NOVIEMBRE,
Roe v.
