ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 12, 2016 1st Reading: 2 Samuel 12:7-10, 13 2nd Reading: Galatians 2:16, 19-21 One of the greatest challenges that we face today as a Church and as a local parish, is retaining the participation of our youth as they grow older and more independent. I firmly believe that in order to do so, we must offer many opportunities for them to be engaged in the life of the parish so that they develop a true sense of belonging and knowing that their involvement is an important part of parish life. Actually, for people in any age-group, if going to Church is merely a weekly spectator event with no personal connection or active participation, it is very easy to lose interest and drift away. I am very happy to say that, although we have far from perfect attendance, the number of youth who attend and participate in the life of our parish is higher than average. Thanks to a sound youth program under the leadership of Mr. Michael Santilli and a concerted effort to provide opportunities for our young people to actively serve our parish community after Confirmation, we have a good number of very reliable and helpful young men and women who serve in various parish ministries. This weekend at the 11:00 AM Mass, we will acknowledge and congratulate thirteen of our High School seniors who have been involved in Liturgical Ministries, some since the fourth grade as Altar Servers. Listed in alphabetical order and the ministries in which they have served, they are: Keryn Birrell – Lector; Brendan Dillon – Lector and Eucharistic Minister; Danielle Dottor – Eucharistic Minister; Jack Farley – Eucharistic Minister; Sarah Gallo – Senior Server and Eucharistic Minister; Aidan Kendra – Eucharistic Minister; Hayden Parkes – Senior Server and Eucharistic Minister; Matthew Russell – Eucharistic Minister; Adriana Saccoccio – Eucharistic Minister; Christian Sorensen – Senior Server and Eucharistic Minister; P.J. Thomas – Lector; Ariana Tortolani – Lector; Amanda Woodbury – Eucharistic Minister. I am very grateful to these young men and women not only for their service, but also for their commitment and for the great example they provide for the younger children of our parish. They demonstrate that discipleship is for people of all ages! Let us continue to pray for them as they begin a new chapter in their lives. Gospel: Luke 7:36―8:3 Holy Apostles Healing Mass with Saturday, June 18 at 11AM All are welcome, especially the frail, aged, those in poor health or preparing for major surgery and all seeking the Lord’s healing and protection. Refreshments will follow the Mass in the Community Life Center. As a parish community, let us always be mindful of the sick and the suffering in our midst and keep them in our prayers.
