February 22 - St. Anthony of Padua Parish
February 22, 2015 St. Anthony of Padua 101 E Virginia Ave Effingham IL 62401 217-347-7129 ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA PARISH EFFINGHAM, ILLINOIS Padre’s point of view . . .As you may be aware, these weeks in the bulletin I am explaining each of the rules that I have made and try to live by. At the office, in our schools and churches, I encourage those with me to do the same. So here is… Rule #4: Shortly after Fr. Edgar’s arrival, I spoke with him and he mentioned a seminary Professor, who spoke about what the Professor called the 11th Commandment: Thou shall have good Public Relations (P.R.). In today’s society, how something is perceived or experienced by an individual is often what he/she sees as reality and truth. Therefore, we want what someone experiences at our churches to be the best experience possible. The Truth draws people to Christ and leads toward salvation. This is the goal of all that we do in the light of our lives as Christ’s family. And so, how you and others perceive the Church will bring you closer to God or push you farther away. For that reason, we are working very hard at having great P.R.; not just in media, social media, and word of mouth but also in our pastoral care and moments in which we all encounter Christ. Fr. Chris will be in the St. Anthony Church office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He will be in the Sacred Heart Church office on Wednesdays and Fridays. Welcome Recently Baptized Mason William Althoff, Millie Clare Bailey, Brock Zachary Bernhard, Evalyn Loretta Wendt,Jacey Ryan Garza, Owen Aloysius Johnson, Cole Murphy Althoff, and Truman Christopher Mette CCWNEWS The March meeting of the CCW will be Tuesday, March 3 after the 8:30 Mass. Our speaker will be Becky Donaldson from the Diocesan Office. She will inform us of the Annulment process and the changes that have taken place. We will be inviting the CCW ladies from Shumway and Sacred Heart to join us for this informative meeting. Our deanery meeting will be Tues, March 17 at Christ the King in Greenup and anyone that would like to attend is welcome. At the March meeting we will be asking volunteers to bring food to the Family Life Planning Center for the meetings they have with their staff and clients. The officers covered the month of October and we are hoping some of you will help cover the 5 dates in April. Mark your calendar for the March 3 meeting and also Sunday, May 3 for the Annual May Breakfast. Please pray for Restoration of Religious Liberty, those who are ill, those in hospitals and nursing homes, those recovering from surgery, and all those serving our country. Also, Joe Adams, Sr. Angelica, Doris Dasenbrock, Jeaneane Jenne, Luke Johnson, Ted Keller, Kathy Koester, Jane McDevitt, Bill Mette, Floyd Pagel, Esther Poterucha, Michael Poterucha, Marilyn Shoftstall, Ron Shoffstall, Normalie Strickland Gruen VonBehrens, Dan Willenborg. The Diocesan Child Abuse Reporting and Investigation Number is 217-321-1115. Attention . . . In the event of a death, accident or other life emergencies, while offices are closed, please contact (217) 703-1042. This week in RCIA…We utilized the time at our last gathering to learn and understand our Catholic Church Liturgical calendar. We see in the calendar the celebration of holy days, solemnities, feast days, Sundays, and the seasons of the year, along with the tones and colors of these celebrations. Our Eucharistic Liturgies bring us together. One of the purposes of the church calendar year is to help us grow in holiness by directing our prayer lives in the liturgy, remembering where we came from (God the Creator) and to where we are heading (eternal life). This coming week we will have a lesson on Church history presented by Fr. Edgar. We will also have prepared the group for the Rite of Election and Call that is being held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield on Sunday, February 22. We ask for your continued prayers for these men and women especially as they make good use of the Lenten season observing what we do as Catholics, learning the Lenten observances, and discerning what God continues to call them to. Deacon Joe We are thinking about renting buses and hotel rooms and making a Pilgrimage to Philadelphia to see Pope Francis in September. In order to put this trip together, I would like to know how much interest we would have. Please call the St Anthony or Sacred Heart office if you are interested, and include the number that would be going.
