Remember, we do not generally send out
bills because of the cost of postage,
envelopes, and labels which is money we
can use instead to further our charitable
mission, so your response to this and other
communications rather than a mailed bill
is greatly appreciated.
Our condolences go out to Steve
Bowden and his family for the recent loss
of his mother. Our thoughts and prayers
are with you.
Please continue to keep Andy Mays and
his family in your thoughts and prayers as
he continues to deal with his serious
medical condition.
As of this writing we have not yet had
the January ceremonial, the first in our
new facility, but I would like to extend our
appreciation ahead of time to everyone
who participated in the ceremonial. Great
things always happen through teamwork.
That’s what it’s all about.
Have a wonderful February everybody,
and MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
Remember, never hesitate to contact me
with any questions, concerns, news,
gossip, stories, drama, intrigue, nonsense,
or just plain outright foolishness that you
would like to generously share with our

general. I can be contacted at rbilancia@

The last meeting of the club was at
Pat’s Pizza on January 5th. There were 39
members present. The meeting was called
to order by President Steve Mosley. The
only member out of dress code was Noble
Corey Cirard. I thought, “Do I have to call
your father to make sure you come fully
dressed next meeting?” The next Ladies
Night will be April 5th at Riverside Cafe
in Ellsworth. Please mark your calendars.
Dinner at 6:00. Noble Jay Sutter won the
raffle for the evening. Fuel raffle tickets
will be coming within the next month.
The gun raffle is going very well. So think

good time was had by all.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year.

the buffet. I think he is going to buy his
wife a new present.

moved into their newly renovated house.

ORIENTAL
BAND
David Spooner,
President
It was great to see everyone at January
Ceremonial, and boy was it nice to take a
break from our “Out of this World” tour.
The band has really logged a lot of miles
this past year. We are very excited to retire
the green 1962 Chevy Impala and get into
our new tour bus, “The Flying Fez”! We
were very fortunate to receive such a
wonderful gift from a corporate donor. It
will make the many miles each year more
enjoyable. Not that we didn’t appreciate
our time riding in Noble Steve Cheney’s
Impala, it has served us well although at
times it did seem more like a clown car
than a tour bus.
The first casino night of 2016 was held
at the University of Maine at Fort Kent
and was a great success! Check out some
of the pictures on the band’s Facebook
page. We are sure to have more events
like this in the near future but for now it is
time to pack the bus, kiss the wife and kids
and head back out on the road. The next
leg of the tour takes us to the sunny south
with the first stop at the Ink and Paint Club
in Crabapple Cove. Stop by if you happen
to be in the neighborhood. Oh and
Remember, You don’t have to be crazy to
hang out with the Oriental Band!! …
We’ll train you!!

Greetings from the Waldo County Shrine Club,
The club would like to express our most
sincere thanks to Raymond and Katrina Young
for their efforts with the fabulous January
Scallop Stew meal for the monthly meeting.
Also, thanks go out to Charlie Plourde for his
world famous biscuits.
As you all know, our January meeting is
preceded by the annual shareholders meeting
at which time we put forward our 2016 slate of
officers. We installed 3 new members onto the
Board of Directors of the Waldo County Shrine
Club. Seated were Bill Kirby, Keith Pooler and
Ryan Otis. Nobel Tommy Woods has accepted
the position of Vice President for the coming
year as I (Charlie Pray) stepped down to the
position of past president. Also elected were
out two traditional stalwarts, Charlie Plourde
retaining the position of Secretary of the club
and David Bowen as the Treasurer. I would
especially like to thank noble’s Duncan Brown
and Kyle Payson for their years of service and
commitment to the board of directors and
assistance in making the everyday workings of
the club run so smoothly.
As a matter of housekeeping, it appears that
the club will need to replace our aging
dishwasher as it seems to be a bit temperamental
in its old age. We have been researching the
exact needs of the club and have begun
accepting bids for this unit. More on this
equipment and the expenditure in the coming
new letters... Also, as noted in the past , we are
getting the financial information on the afore
mentioned heat pump project that will
hopefully be installed into the club prior to the
busy summer rental business.
In keeping with our commitment to ANAH,
the hospitals and the Sun Shine Club, Waldo
County Shrine Club has presented a very
generous donation of $1,500 to Anah’s
“Building For The Future” fund. The Waldo
County Shrine Club Charitable Trust presented
donations totaling $2,500 by distributing
$1,000 each to the “Mission Impossible” fundraiser for the Boston & Springfield Shriners
Hospitals along with $500 to ANAH’S Sun
Shine Club.
As a reminder to all Nobles, the next big
fund-raiser is off and running in that the Shrine
Circus advertising packets are being
distributed, so expect a call from one of our
local reps.
In closing I would like to thank all the
members of the Waldo County Shrine Club
along with its Board of Directors for making
my last two years as President such a rewarding
experience. It is with great satisfaction that I
have turned the gavel over to our most worthy
president, Steve Trimm and his incoming vice
president, Tommy Woods. As I have said in the
REMEMBER; Valentine’s Day is February 14th. Tell someone you Love them.

past, with a board of directors such as the
Waldo County Shrine Club, the President has
little to do but steer the ship, the propulsion is
well designed into its membership and the
commitment of it’s board members.
Thank you all the nobility, their wives and
family’s for making the last two years such an
enjoyable time.
Yours in Faith,
Charlie Pray, Past President, Waldo County
Shrine Club.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP
If you are like me you have probably been wondering what gift to give a Shriner, for his
Birthday or special occasion, who has everything. How about a Life Membership to
Anah Shrine? A Life Membership in Anah Shrine is an ideal gift to present to a father,
son, husband, grandson, or friend. You can purchase a total life membership for
$1,300.00 before Dec. 31, 2015. As of Jan. 1, 2016 the cost will go to $1,750.00. This
amount includes Anah’s dues, P.C.M..(permanent contributing member) for Shriners
Hospitals for Children and P.C.L.M (per capita life member). Each Life Membership
comes with a certificate that can be framed and he will proudly display.
When you give the gift of a Life Membership, all dues and per capita fees will be paid
during the course of your favorite Shriner’s life. With this wonderful gift you are not only
giving to your favorite Shriner, but also to his beloved philanthropy and his fraternity as
well. He’ll never have to worry about increased dues, including hospital dues; and his
Life Membership goes into a secured investment fund that cannot be touched. Anah
only receives the interest generated from this fund each year. For more information or
payment plan arrangements please contact the Shrine office. (207) 942-2254.
There is no better time to give the gift of Life Membership to that special
Shriner. Nobles they also make a great gift to give yourself ! This is a
worthwhile investment that keeps on Giving !

February, and a short month at that,
won’t be long before the parades will
be starting. In fact, just last week Scot’s

though she heard one of the trucks trying

2nd, at 6:00, at the Happy China in Bangor.
Our golf tournament will be June 4th, at the

Anniversary wishes this month go to

Hello everyone and Happy Valentines
Day. January has been to say the least
strange, especially for us in Maine. Forty’s
and Fifty’s isn’t that March weather?
Our new Provost Marshall has proposed
a night with Elvis dance, namely Harry
himself would perform as Elvis. In case
you missed last years Ladies night with
Elvis and are an Elvis fan you should
plan on going to this one. You won’t be
disappointed. This is just one of the fund
raisers our unit is proposing. Feedback will
be helpful at the meetings.
Judith Pratt had a little set back, she fell
and spent time back in the hospital, but is
on the mend again.
In case some you aren’t aware, Doug
Segee lost Jean just weeks ago. We all
send our heartfelt prays and thoughts to
you Doug.
Wishing Lady Nadene Smith a Happy
Birthday and Happy Anniversary to Noble
John and Lady Tavia Lessor, enjoy your
respected days and more to come.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February
2,at 7 o’clock, until then stay safe.

Personnal Aide to Ill. Jesse and Lady
Brenda. Aide Denny Smith will be coming
back on as Assistant Chief along with
Chief Ed Huntly. Aide Denny Smith will
be coming back on as Asst. Chief , along
with Asst, Chief Mike London, and Asst.
Chief Ed Huntley. Welcome back Denny.
On a not so pleasant time we lost two very
fine and dedicated Aides this year. Personal
Aide Bobby Buck and Aide
Emeritus Vern Smith passed away. I know
it;s a little late, but our condolences go out
to both of their families. They
contibuted a lot to the Shrine.
The next big event for the Aides will be
the Shrine Circus!! It sure comes around
quick it seems. Again we would like all the
Aides to particapate on this. A lot of the
Aides, their Ladies, and even Kiddos do
a great job on the Cotton Candy, but we
could use help, so the Flag Unit doesn’t
have to do so much of it. At one time that
was a requrement for being an Aide, but it
got side tracked a little. Even being there
as an usher, or running the novelties to the
differnt Units will be a great help.
I guess that’s all for now. Have a safe rest
of Winter and I’ll see you in the Spring.
Again THANKS TO ALL for the help for
this past four years. Chief Aide Gordon
I’m writing this February article on
December 15th, just so I won’t miss the
Anahgram. Tomorrow Lady Rhonda and
I leave for Florida and plan to be back in
time for the Wheeler Super Supper on Feb
13th.
We Wheelers had our yearly election of
officers and retained the same officers.
The Wheelers have added a significant
number of outstanding new members last
year and I’m sure many of them are not yet
on my birthday list. Please let me know if
I missed you.
Noble Dale Jordan and Lady Kim share
the only anniversary this month.
Happy Birthday wishes are in order for
Nobles Lewis Church, Dean Hoke and
Garry and Barry Curtis. I hope your special
days are blessed and shared with those you
love.
Teddy TaTa Reporting,
Noble Sid Alley, Reporter
Happy New Year! As we begin 2016,
the only thing we can be certain of is an
uncertain year. As with all New Years, we
anticipate great things to come. Sometimes
our expectations are realized and sometimes
not. The Mini Bike unit has for some years
now been struggling for survival, all while
trying to maintain a positive outlook. Our
positive expectations for a great new year
have been met with continued challenges
to overcome. Topping the list as usual are
rider recruitment and retention. This year
we have lost a few more riders in spite of
our best efforts to find replacements. I think
“Dare to be honest and fear no labor.” – Robert Burns
we are at an all time low as far as active
riders are concerned.
We had our end of year meeting at Seasons
with a good turnout. Elections were held
but with so few riders left it seemed more
like a devision of responsibility with most
of us wearing several helmets.
We lost a new rider just days after his first
parade. Manny died unexpectedly and the
unit would like to express our condolences
to his family. Charlie Hill left Maine to
join the police force in New Orleans .
Congrats and good luck Charlie; thank you
for your service.
Happy Birthday wishes go out to Pat
Alley for January, Guy Chapman and Sid
Alley in February and happy anniversary
to Ray and Ellen Sanborn in February as
well.
Capt. Todd “Ernie” Foster Reporting
Greetings Nobles and Ladies!
First off I would like to congratulate
Steve “Buzz” Dewitt and his suite of
officers for 2016. They are as follows,
Capt. Steve “Buzz Lightyear” Dewitt, 1st.
Lt. Travis “Cowboy Woody” Frost, 2nd
Lt. Aarron “Elmo” Mower, Sec. Doza
“Sid” Lane, Treas. Sam “Stewart the
Minion” Cannon. Good luck you guys in
the coming year.
I would also like to congratulate,
founding member and Illustrious Sir Jesse
“Pink Panther” Thomas for an outstanding
year as Potentate of Anah Shriners. We
hope we made you proud, and we have
had so much fun, doing so much good, in
the year 2015!
We would also like to send our sincerest
congratulations and best wishes to the
newly elected Ill. Sir Bob Turner for a
great 2016. If you need anything, you
know the Funsters will be here for you!
We have just had our January monthly
meeting. The Secretary and Treasurer
reports were read and accepted. We
passed around a tentative schedule for the
year as far as parades and meetings go.
Capt. Buzz has some great things planned
for this year and also has some great
incentives to participate. You’ll have to
make a meeting to find out what those
incentives are. Not much going on in the
cartoon world this time of year, but I hope
you all are enjoying the new year so far!
Birthday wishes this month go out to:
Diane Clark, Bob Hasey, Dave Hasey,
Shawn Cookson, Jesse (Pink Panther)
Thomas, Jackie Harris, Sterling Bunker,
Olivia Spencer, and Sam Lindsey.
There were no anniversaries this month,
must have been too cold! There was a
wedding last month, Sam “The Minion”
Cannon
married
Lady
Renee,
congratulations you two!!!
Our next monthly meeting will be
Monday, February 8th, at the Shrine
Center at 7:00. Just remember, only 287
days left ‘til “Huntin’ Camp 2016!”

Medway, Maine, January 10, 2016, 7
p.m. rain, wind and a temperature of 40
degrees; what a crazy winter.
The
Ceremonial is a little less than a week
away. What will the weather hold for us?
Thirty Nobles and Ladies took part in our
January 6 meeting. Again we were at the
Sno-Rovers Club House and once again
we enjoyed a fine meal. President Elwell
welcomed all and called the meeting to
order at 7 o’clock. Noble Ken Perkins led
the assembled with a fine blessing of the
meal, Nobles and those that are in harm’s
way.
Mrs. Jean Segee, wife of Noble Douglas
Segee, has recently passed. A card for her
family was circulated to be signed by all
in attendance. As a Club, we extend our
most sincere condolences to the family.
Our guests for the evening were Neal
Nicholson (father-in-law of President
Elwell) and Noble Bob Pullen. We were
pleased to have them in attendance.
Under the heading of old business
President Elwell made note of the Club’s
upcoming donation to the Burns Unit and
the Springfield Hospital, our attendance at
a recent Anah stated meeting and the
Club’s circus kick-off supper.
With new business, comments were
made and discussion took place about the
upcoming January 15 & 16 winter
ceremonial, the upcoming circus and the
lack of speed of receiving new Shrine
dues cards.
Two couples, in attendance, were
celebrating anniversaries this evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hanscom were
observing 47 years of bliss together while
Mr. and Mrs. Vinyl Noyes were happy to
announce a celebration of 60 years.
Congratulations were offered to the two
couples.
This evening we had our usual
dignitaries present plus one. Greeter
Emeritus; Derward Shedd, Aide Emeritus;
Paul Thornton, P.P.; Tony Bowers and
Robert Pullen, a Member of the Board of
Directors of the Springfield Hospital and
our guest speaker for the evening.
Nobel Pullen was introduced by
President Elwell. Nobel Pullen then
proceeded to share information with us
about the past, most recent and future
“Feztival of Trees.” He shared with us his
work in his position, for Anah Shrine, with
the Springfield Hospital. Noble Pullen
informed those in attendance of the work
being done by the hospitals and in
particular the Springfield Unit. The
hospital is full, new doctors are in place,
special clinics are being conducted, etc.
He did mention that because of the
Affordable Care Act, the Shriner’s
19
Hospitals must now send a bill to the
parents of the patient. Once these bills are
sent, they are written off therefore patient
care is still free. However, it is a hoop that
our Shriner Hospitals have to jump
through. At the end of his presentation, in
addition to answering questions he
received a very warm round of applause
from the Nobles and Ladies.
The new year is here and so tomorrow I
begin to visit the local businesses to have
them purchase advertising or tickets for
our Shrine Circus. It may be tough this
year with yet another mill shut down but
who knows, these are very caring
communities.
A reminder to one and all that our next
meeting with be at the Snow-Hounds Club
house in Lincoln on February 3. We do
not hold a March meeting but April will
find us at the clubhouse of the Molunkus
Valley Snow Drifters in Sherman. By the
time you read this the Ceremonial will
have come and gone and so to the
“Potentates Party”. We hope that you had
a great time at each. Until the next time
please remember to keep Masonry and
Shrine Dom in your life.
SCHOODIC
SHRINE CLUB
Noble David G. Beckett, Reporter
Greetings from Schoodic Shrine Club:
Wish you could have joined us for our
annual meeting and Christmas celebration
at the Meddybemps Community Center
on Sunday, December 13th. We have a
new slate of officers for 2016. Jamie
Gower was elected President of the Club
and he is looking forward to a good year.
Ike Winchester thanked the Nobles and
ladies for their support over the past two
years. We had a great pot luck supper.
Everything was delicious. After supper
and the election of officers, we had an
exciting Yankee Swap. It was a lot of fun.
We only had twelve in attendance, but we
had a great time.
Frank Theriault gave out the Circus
awards. Buster and Carolyn Hayward
were not able to attend, so Frank delivered
their awards to them earlier. Frank
Theriault, Dennis Bryant, and David
Beckett also received awards.
John Benner broke his wrist on
Christmas Day and he needed surgery.
John says he is going to lay low for a while
to give it a chance to mend. We wish John
all the best and a speedy recovery.
We traditionally skip the February
meeting. We will, however, be meeting on
Wednesday, March 16th at the New
Friendly Restaurant in Perry at 5:30 pm.
This will be a ladies’ night. We do not
have a meeting planned for April, but if
any of you Nobles have an idea for a place
to meet in April, I’m sure that could be
arranged, just come to the March meeting
with the idea.
If we have a meeting in your area, please
try to join us. We need your support in
order to keep the Club going. We raise a
lot of money for Anah Shriners during the
year and we could do even more with your
help. I look forward to seeing you at our
meetings this year.
‘Til next time!

Martin “Fou”
Perfit,
Clown Unit
reporter
December’s first clown event was our
ongoing Home Depot Children’s Workshop
where one hundred twelve kids were
entertained, diverted, distracted and regaled
by the dynamic duo of Div-It (Duane
Young) and Fou (Martin Perfit).
Saturday, December 19 was the occasion
for a double header at the new Shrine
Center on Broadway. The first event
was the Bangor – Brewer Shrine Club’s
Children’s Christmas Party in which Spiffy
(Kerry Spofford) played Santa Claus and
Div-It (Duane Young), SlapShot Dale
Hatch) and emeritus clown Jappo (Mike
Samiya) twisted balloons.
The second event of this busy day was
the unit’s Christmas Party & Annual
Meeting. Officers elected for 2016 are
as follows: Boss Clown=Coota (Arthur
Watson), Captain=Sluggah (Curtis
Haynes), Treasurer=SlapShot (Dale Hatch),
Secretary=Div-It (Duane Young). Newly
elected members of the Board of Directors
are Pooch (Pat Kelly), Gizmo (Lorne
Noiles) and BoBo (Donny Young). In lieu
of a gift swap, the unit members brought
unwrapped new toys and games to be
donated the nearest Shrine Hospitals in
Boston & Springfield, MA.
The year ended with a New Year’s Eve
Dance jointly sponsored by the Clown
Unit and the Mini-Cars. Members of
both units joined together for setup and
cleanup. Given the attendance of over
three hundred sixty, that cleanup took some
effort. The kitchen was, fortunately well
supported by the following: TC/Trashcan
(Bill Taylor), Spiffy (Kerry Spofford)
Lady Pam, Pop Fizz (Troy Devoe) Bo-BO
(Donny Young) and Lady Janice, and Piggy
(Tom Vanchieri) and Lady Brenda. Dance
music was so successfully provided by “5
Wheel Drive” that we’ve already reserved
them for next New Year’s Eve. The good
feelings fueled generous contributions to
our Red Sneaker Fund giant sneaker to the
extent where a one hundred bill was among
the donations!
Comedy Night on Feb. 20 is our next big
event. See our ad this issue for details.

Topic of the Day:
How To Be Prepared for a Fire
In less than 30 seconds a single flame can become a fire. In two minutes, it
can become life-threatening; in five minutes a residence can be
destroyed.
To protect yourself, you must be prepared.
Here’s how:
• Have an escape plan with two ways out of every
room
• If you live in an apartment building, know the
nearest exit and stairwell
• If
-
you are in a room with a closed door during a fire
Do not open the door if you see smoke under it
If you don’t see smoke, check the door handle –do not open if hot
If you can open the door, and there is no smoke or heat, proceed
quickly to your exit
- If you can’t get out right away, yell for help or call 911

Noble Gaylord E. Sundt, Reporter
Looking back to last year at this time I
see that it was three below zero. Right now
it’s 46 degrees out! Almost warm enough to
get out the chaise lounge and start working
on the tan. And this the second week of
January! How are you fellow unit members
liking the weather down south? I hear that
it’s not been much warmer there.
January has started 2016 out to be quiet,
not a bad thing. Not much to interfere with
recovery from the holidays of December.
Our January unit meeting will be held in the
coming week which will be long gone as
you read this. As will the Potentates party
held on the 30th. If this weather trend holds,
and I hope that it will, we’ll be dancing
outside for that one.
Several members of our units family
celebrate their birthdays in February.
Ladies Jean Fernald, Ann Jordan and also
Doris Seymour (even though she’s not
with the unit anymore) are blowing out the
candles this month. Nobles Tom Fernald,
Bill Fernald and Yogi Seymour (even
though he deserted us) also will create some
smoke when their cakes are presented. Best
wishes to all of you!
The only couple in the unit celebrating
their anniversary this month is Noble and
Lady Ron and Ann Jordan. Ron you’ll be
busy this month. The old piggy bank will
be taking a hit if you know what’s good
for you. Birthday and anniversary as well
as Valentines gifts to purchase. Good luck
and happy anniversary to you both.
And to everyone else, you all have a few
days left to buy your sweetie that special
gift for that special Valentines Day right
around the corner. Happy day to us all!
Be sure to check the calendar for upcoming
Shrine events. A great organization, for a
great cause! It’s all about the kids!
Remember to keep all of your family and
friends in your thoughts and prayers. And
be thankful that we are as blessed as we are.
Just think, only three or four more months
before we can go topless again!
That’s all for this long month of February.

Tri County Shrine Club held their
Annual Meeting on the 16th of December
at the Dexter Club. The 18 Nobles enjoyed
a lively Libation Hour and a Roast Pork
and Baked Ham dinner. The meal was put
on by PP Lee Kaufman and Noble Steve
Hartley. From what I was told, Lee did
most of the work and Steve made sure he
did it right. Tri County jokes about our
supper committees, but we sure do
appreciate the Nobles that help out with
the meals. Meeting was called to order by
President Danny Costain. Invocation was
given by Noble Donald “BOBO” Young.
Flag salute was led by the President. A
moment of Silence was held in memory of
Nobles Vern Smith and Bob Buck. It was
great to see Noble Jerry Rollins back at Tri
County. Noble Mike Blake was in Florida,
his father was under the weather.
Introduced at the head table were VP
Watson, Treasurer Taylor, Secretary
Mosley and Libation Master Scott Folsom.
Unit Heads in attendance were Noble
Scott Folsom of the 4X4’s and Boss
Clown Arthur “COOTAH” Watson. Aide
Emeritous in attendance was Ron Green.
Representing the Directors Staff was
Chief Director Danny Costain. Past
Potentate Lee Kaufman was in attendance.
The Secretary and Treasurer gave their
annual reports, which were accepted by
the Nobles present. At a recent Directors
Meeting of Tri County Shrine Club, they
voted to make the following donations:
$1000 for the Building Fund for Anah
Shrine, $500 for the Sunshine Club, $100
to the Bangor-Brewer Shrine Club for
Anah’s Christmas party for the children,
$1000 to the Potentate’s fund, which is for
Noble Doug Dulac’s year. They also voted
to pay the Dexter Club $500 for rent. The
above donations was voted on by the
Nobles and passed as read. The nominating
committee present the following slate of
Officers for 2016-2017: President Arthur
Watson, Vice President Richard Johnson,
Secretary David Mosley and Treasurer
Marty Taylor. These Nobles were voted in
by the Nobles present. New Directors
presented and voted in were Donald
Young, Lorne Noiles and Corey Roberts.
The Officers and Directors will be
installed at the next meeting in January.
VP Watson brought the Club up to date
about the Concert Raffle Tickets. Next
months meeting will be back at the Dexter
Club. Noble Ralph McNaughton won the
50/50 and donated his share back to the
Club. At this time, Tri County Shrine Club
would like to thank President Danny

Unfortunately the Chanters are again
hurting for enough members to be able to
support the Academicians with music for
the January Ceremonial. We were able to
field enough members to sell jewelery for
the event. Anyone who is interested in
joining our unit is welcome - and sorely
needed. Also we want to wish long time
member Jimmy Leighton our best wishes
for a speedy recovery from surgery. He
had a blockage in blood flow to his head
that had to be corrected. He will be very
limited in what he is allowed to do for
about a month.
Dale and Mary Hadlock have migrated

that Suzzane Shorey will be visiting them

Hello everyone from the membership
committee. I wanted to update you all a
little bit on membership. First of all let me
tell you we had a very successful Hospital
Support Night event on Sat. August 2nd.
This is something the membership comm.
put on to raise awareness of what we
really do as Shriners which is support the
hospitals. We had a fantastic meal put on
by the Second Section, who did it free
of charge by the way, a silent auction,3
patients from the hospitals that spoke and
some great entertainment by the Skyliners
band. Because it was our first time doing
this and being in the middle of the summer
I was a little nervous about what kind of
turnout we would get. I am very pleased to
say that we had over 120 in attendance! The
deal was that every penny of profit we made
would be D
split between the Boston and
RAW We actually will be
Springfield hospitals.

As I write this article I realize that
summer is slipping away very quickly. Fall
is fast approaching and the leaves will soon
be turning color. It is a beautiful time of
the year but we all know what is to follow
in a few months. Enjoy the good weather
while we have it. Hopefully we will have
a nice warm fall.
Our August 7th meeting was a ladies night
and was held at the Degenhart Campground TICKETS AVAILABLE AT
in Jonesport. I was unable to attend so have ANAH SHRINE OFFICE
no report on the meeting. I do know that 207.942.2254 AND FROM
they were making the plans for the Annual

Happy St. Valentine’s Day
February was the only month of the year
with an even number of days before Julius
Caesar reformed the calendar. Februarius
the romans called it, took its name from
februa, “means of cleansing.”
This
cleansing was appropriate for
the
ushering in of spring and the new year.
February is the only month that can pass
without a full moon. It last happened in
1999 and will happen again 2018.
Keeping the aforementioned in mind it
is now time look forward the next ten
months of the new year and all good things
that the Keystone Kops have planned to
support our fraternity and philanthropy.
Happy Birthday wishes for the month of
February go out to Kop Lloyd Hopkins
and Ladies Betty Trimm and Angie
Ellsworth. Congratulations to all and may
you have many more. There are no
wedding anniversaries during the month.
Now to the trivia question of the month.
Last month’s question was:
Which
country buys the most greeting cards per
capita? Answer: The British buy 31 cards
per person annually and women buy 85%
of them. In keeping with Valentine’s Day
this month’s question is: The world’s first
Valentine message is believed to have
been sent when?
The time has come to close the “Blotter”
for this month and to remember “IT’S
ALL ABOUT THE KIDS”.
The next Keystone Kops meeting is
February 23, 2016.
The Feztival

Bob Pullen, Reporter
Good day to one and all,
The figures are in for Feztival 2015 and
will be presented at the January
Ceremonial for those of you who have not
been informed as of then. We had a banner
year and the cost of running our beautiful
new home will be made a bit easier due to
that success. The committee will still meet
the second Monday of the month @ 6PM
at 1404 Broadway. By the time you read
this we will have had 3 meetings in
preparation for Feztival 2016. We take a
month off in the summer but there are a lot
of details that need attention starting in
December to get things fine tuned to make
each year a little bit better. You are all
invited to come and attend our meetings,
after all it is you Shrine center that
benefits. We want new nobles and their

ladies to come and take part in this event
as it will give more people a sense of
proprietorship in our new home and the
fraternity in general. We also like to hear
constructive criticism in order to make
the Feztival continue to be the success we
have enjoyed. This year we have the
advantage of having a feel for the building
and hopefully it will take some of the edge
off the nerves of presenting the event.
Believe it or not we heard the same
complaint as last year from a few people
and that was there wasn’t enough parking.
I thought that had been put to bed when
we moved, but filling the spaces we have
seemed rather nice. The crowds were
friendly and even though we did have long
lines everyone I spoke to thought it was
worth the wait. I hope you all enjoy 2016
and may you and yours be blessed with all
you need and want. If I may make a
suggestion, the next time you’re in the
Shrine center stop and reflect on how
lucky we are to have had a noble step
forward to secure this building for us and
give a well deserved TIP OF THE FEZ to
Doug. If not for this extraordinary noble
we would still be on main street wishing
we had a building like the on we have
now. Few people measure up to Doug and
his lovely wife on being so giving, people
of this magnitude are few and far between.

I write this article we are close to 30

The January Ceremonial is over and The
Second Section welcomes all new Nobles
of Anah Shrine along with the entire
appointed Divan for 2016. Congratulations
to our new Illustrious Potentate Bob

leadership that Bob brings to the helm.
The 52nd Annual Potentates Party is
scheduled for Saturday, January 30th at
the Shrine temple. Tickets may be

To all of the new Nobles of Anah from

summer, please consider the Second
Section. Our first and foremost job is to
be proficient in working the initiation of
candidates at the June Ceremonial, and all
that pertains thereto, and assisting the

service to the Shrine with cooking,
servicing, parking for the Folk Festival,
selling programs, providing meals at the

few. The Nobles of the Second Section
