Once again the club had a record turnout of 117 for the
Holiday Dance. We were happy to see the faces of
some "traveling" members. We really enjoy when
they come home to visit and tell us of their adventures.
One thing is for sure, our club does know how to enjoy
themselves and the volunteers that put these events
together try very hard to make sure that happens! A
big thanks to Mary, Marilyn, Rudy, Cindy, Maureen
and Tim for a wonderful dinner dance. What a Hoot!
I would also like to thank Jack and Sharon Holland for
another great Monster Mash party and for inviting our

The purpose of the Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club is to develop, encourage, and stimulate an interest in sailing in the Hillsboro Inlet area. It
is our responsibility to promote fellowship and camaraderie among
sailors in our club, among sailors in the area and among our guests.
Membership
An application for membership in HISC may be obtained from
membership chairpersons Tim & Maureen Leonard, 954-725-8217 or
by contacting any club member. There is a $30.00 initiation fee and
annual dues of $125 (family), $100 (single), are payable upon joining
and every January thereafter. After June 30, the dues are $62.50
(family) or $50.00 (single)for the rest of the current year for new
members.
Monthly General Meeting
The Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club holds a monthly membership meeting
generally on the second Thursday of each month, 7:00pm at the
Lighthouse Point Yacht and Racquet Club, 2701 N.E. 42nd Street,
Lighthouse Point, Tel: (954)942-7224. Please check the monthly
calendar or call the editor for any changes in the meeting dates, times,
or locations.

The Annual Pompano Beach Flea Market has changed to January 20th and 21st
this year. Make sure you sign up to help
setup, work (yea! Right!) And tear down
the H.I.S.C. booth. Clean out those garages and warehouses (yes, dear!), we
need your ah … good stuff to sell. Hey
it's for our youth sailing program.
There are a few other roster changes this
year. The January Board meeting (Jan.
4Th) will include the new committee
and board members so that a transfer of
knowledge can take place and they can
get a feel for what happens at a board
meeting. And don't forget, because of
the Ft. Lauderdale to Key West Race, the
January General meeting is on January
18th.
In February, there are only three main
events. The Super Bowl Party on Feb.
4th and the Landlubber party on Feb.
17th (get that cruising point!). Check the
inlet outlet and your emails for the flyer
with details of those events. The third is
of course, the Change of Command din-
ner dance which is a gala event whereby the new
incoming officers are welcomed and the outgoing
officers are honored. Don your blue blazer and join us
for that and also, don't miss the famous circle raft up
the weekend after that (March 3rd and 4th). We need
65 boats to break the record, more on that later.
Mary and I will be taking on new jobs within the club
next year and promise to help incoming Commodore
Tim and Commodorable Maureen with a smooth transition. We have no doubt that there will be some new
and exciting things on the horizon. It is important to
embrace change that an increasing membership brings.
There is so much talent and energy out there to tap so
when you complete your renewal forms (which accompany your dues), don't forget to include those
things in which you have a special interest, talent, or
desire to cultivate!

There we two (2) great events in November. The 7th
Annual Chili Cookoff, with 18 cruising points
awarded and the Thanksgiving Cruise, with 19
cruising points awarded. I want to thank our hosts,
Blue Runner & Soulmate (Chili) and Cracker Jack,
Blue Belle & Diversion (Thanksgving). They all did
a wonderful job. The details of the Chili Cook-off
were featured in the December Inlet/Outlet. Please
read the article about Thanksgiving in this month's
Inlet/Outlet.
The brisk fall air proved to be delightful for the dedicated cruisers who joined the HISC Thanksgiving
weekend raft-up in No Name Harbor.
Boats are stacking up the points. So far we have 3
additional boats that will be awarded flags at the
January meeting. Is one of them you? If not, you
still have a few chances to earn points for this cruising year. So far 29 flags have been earned, with a
number of boats only 1 or 2 points away. Don't miss
out on this valuable, limited edition, 35th anniversary
flag. Come out and join us for New Years, Land
Lubbers or the Change of Command Cruise. Still
may be short a point or 2? Raft up with another club
member overnight and earn additional cruising
points.

A diverse group of sailors made their way to our cruise
destination at different times of the week:
Co-host's Paul & Debby from Bleu Belle spent most of
the week before in the Upper Keys. Likewise, Bob &
Shirley Kay from Harmony spent most of the week at
No Name waiting improved weather to travel abit
south. In both cases, these members reported that the
weather was COLD………
Fridays trip to No Name Harbor was pleasant for all.
Winds were from the west starting out at 10-15 Knots.
By noon the winds tapered off to much less than 10
Knots. It did provide a pleasant sail on the outside. No
boats reported any problems. While the AM temperatures were cool, the day got progressively warmer,
though no members were seen in bathing suits.
Bleu Bell's crew, along with the host crews from
Cracker Jack and Diversion welcomed the members on
Friday night with coffee and desert on board Cracker
Jack. The turnout was good with the crews from
Pegasus, Harmony, Lovepat, Joie de Vivre, Fantasy &
Magic joining the host boat crews.
As typical in No Name, the anchorage was crowded.
However, with light winds from a constant direction,
no incidents were reported. Saturday was warmer than
prior days and provided "me-time" for the crews.
There was opportunity to take a hike, rent bicycles,
tour the lighthouse or simply relax. Relaxing is a
function HISC members seem to like to practice,
often.
Paul & Debbie had originally planned a "blind dingy"
race in order to challenge the boat crews. Upon
viewing the anchorage, they modified their activity to
a land game that offered the same challenge. Crew
captains were blind folded. With verbal instruction
from admirals, they were to proceed, on foot, around
pylons (marked trees) to the finish line. The admirals
shouted "port", "starboard" and "Stop" in order to
complete the task. It was amazing how well and how
poorly some captains listened to their mates. Bob Kay
proceeded off in some unknown direction, while Shirley
shouted instructions. It required almost "a shot across
the bow" from Shirley to get him to the finish line.
Randy Tice follows instructions well. Admiral Julie
provided precise direction and they finished first and
captured the prize-A bottle of Capt'n Morgan's finest.
Thanksgiving dinner Saturday (early evening) was
a true feast. The club provided baked ham and
members brought their best side dishes. Several
members drove down to join the intrepid cruisers.
That included Bill & Nancy Allen, Jack & Sharon
Holland, Tom & Judy Morin and Ed White and
guest. Judy Morin brought a fresh-baked turkey
that was still warm. Since she had no leftovers, it
must have been very good. While the entire presentation was fantastic, it was noticed that the
desert table had less flair because of Mary Wells
absence.
Sunday morning the weather was pleasant. However the winds were from the NW-NE at 10-15
knots. Several boats opted to stay another day, a
few ventured on the outside and the balance took
the ICW North.
We conclude by reporting that no crisis occurred,
all present had a good time and your host's thank
you for your attendance.

Race Report
the starting line in Ft. Lauderdale was the worst (and
wettest) part of the day since the wind was from the SE!
The race itself was exhilarating and a real blast (hoot)
with the wind behind us for a change, unlike other years
when we were beating into 20+ knots from the NNE and
the wild waves that the winds created.
The overall fleet was very diverse with yachts from a 32'
C&C to a 77' custom McConaghy along with three
"inexpensive" (yeah, right) Farr 60's and two Trans Pac
52's (about $1.5-2.0+ million each), and of course their
professional crews with matching outfits! The "big
boys (or girls)" started first, and by the time E-Ticket
started with the third class 10 minutes later and Unicorn
with the fourth class 15 minutes later, they were on the
horizon! Oh well! Bye, bye…for now!

Racing Chair 2006/2007
Happy New Year to all HISC members! 2006 was
a great year for racing, so let's make 2007 even
better! In all of the races for 2006 (excluding the
beer can races), 45 HISC boats came out to race in
at least one race, and many competed in almost
every race. For those of you who have not experienced racing with the club, come on out in 2007!
HISC's participation and our great reputation by
showing our "stuff" by taking home the "lion's
share" of the trophies in the local regattas also helps
increase our membership. Everyone wants to be
with the winners, especially sailors! Anyone who
participates in this great sport is a winner in my
book! Congratulations to all of you!
As for racing…on Friday, December 1st, the 50th
Annual Wirth M. Munroe Regatta from Ft. Lauderdale to Palm Beach (34 nm) was held in blustery SE
winds (15-22 knots) with seas 5-8'+. This race has
always been a favorite and rated as one of the top
five races in SE Florida, not only for the racing, but
for the fabulous buffet dinner party at the famous
Sailfish Club on Palm Beach Island!
Of the 29 boats that were entered in four classes
organized by ratings, two who braved the weather
were from HISC, E-Ticket (Class C) and Unicorn
(Class D). Just getting from the Hillsboro Inlet to

Although the wind was on the stern, all of the boats
started with their headsails in order to get far enough to
the east to get on the lay line to the finish 34 nm away.
After about an hour, all of the spinnakers started popping out! What a sight!
There were some very close duels between many boats
as we all finished the race without incident, except for
one boat that broke her rudder near but before the finish
line and had to be towed. Everyone headed to the
Sailfish Club where we were greeted by the barmaids at
the dock with a tray of the traditional rum punches or
beer for each of the crew members on each boat. Now
that's CLASS!
After cleaning up the boats (and ourselves) it was time
to party, which we all did very well with plenty of
experience! The fabulous dinner was next, and unless
you've been there, it's hard to describe…carved turkey,
roast beef, shrimp, snow crab claws, desserts to die for,
etc…let's just say no one went hungry, or thirsty…for a
week!
Finally the awards presentations and the hour of truth
had arrived and the HISC "team" was not disappointed,
and actually a little surprised with the corrected times!
Both E-Ticket and Unicorn had again proved HISC's
racing program is alive and well. E-Ticket won 1st in
Class C (2nd overall!) and Unicorn won 3rd in Class D
(7th overall!). Fantastic for HISC! Congratulations to
Dan and the E-Ticket crew and Michael & Peggy and
the Unicorn crew!

By the way, guess what the biggest "hoot" was (at least
for me): Remember those six multi-million dollar
yachts with their professional "matching" crews? ETicket and Unicorn beat them ALL (obviously corrected time)! Now that is cooooolll!

The Monster Mash

The Monster Mash at the Holland’s was another huge
success this year. Lots of old timers found their way
to the party, headed by Jim and Gail Toups, Who have
moved to Raleigh, NC. The table was groaning with
delectable dishes, and the costumes were clever and
funny. Everyone was well oiled by Jack’s Tipsy
Turtles, so there were several items left behind by
tipsy guests. (Call Sharon.) the Monster Mash Parade
was fun, as usual, and so was the dancing afterward,
But the performances by our commodore and
commodorable were the highlight of the evening.
Mary, dressed in a divided costume, was Paula on one
side and Paul on the other. Facing east, she sang into
her mike as Paula, then jumped around to the west
when the record changed to Paul. But the crowd broke
up when she faced front with two mikes as the musical
duo came on. Next Hal performed to the music of Willie
Nelson and Julio Eglesias, “To All the Girls I’ve Loved
Before”. His costume of Willie was easy. He only had
to add a pig tail in back. But the Julio side was slicked
hair, a tuxedo, and a shaved face! Yes, Hal shaved one
side of his face for the party. We all roared when we saw
the effect. There were lots of jokes about who slept with
whom that night.
A huge thanks from all of us to Sharon and Jack for all
