The Bell May 31, 2015 The Most Holy Trinity Mission Statement We, the people of St. Mary Parish because of our baptismal promises and compelled by our Catholic identity, seek to be an example of God’s presence by worship, education, and service to our neighbors with sensitivity to those most in need of God’s love. From the Pastor’s Desk! May 31, 2015 This Wednesday evening, 36 young men and women, the Class of 2015, are graduating from St. Mary School. This Friday morning, 32 Kindergarten children will graduate. Congratulations to all of our graduates! We are most proud of you! The School year will then end the following week on June 9th. The 8th Grade Graduation and the end of School will be celebrated appropriately at the Eucharist, the center of our lives as Christians and as students of St. Mary School. The Eucharist is where they have been and will be continually nourished by the Word of God and by the Sacrament of Jesus’ Body and Blood. As the 2014-2015 school year comes to a close, I would like to thank our Principal, Barbara Rasinski, her staff in the office, Judi Vrablik and Cathy Carone, and all of our fine faculty. They have done a great job during this year of transition. It was a year filled with much excitement in moving our school academically forward and continuing to advance the ministry of Catholic Education here at St. Mary Parish. I hope the summer is a restful time for all school staff, students and their families. We look forward to an even more exciting 2015-2016 school year as we plan for a year with strong enrollment numbers and an academic program which will continue to provide some of the finest Catholic Grade School Education in the Archdiocese. Fr. Tom Second Collection Next Weekend - Fund for Retired Priests... There are 200 Retired Archdiocesan Priests. They represent 26% of all the priests serving in the Archdiocese. Normal retirement age is 70 for Chicago priests. Sixty (60) priests still live in rectories and assist parishes on a regular basis. At least 100 retired priests celebrate Sunday Mass weekly, perform marriages and baptisms, and visit the sick in hospitals. Without these dedicated men, many parishes would not be able to offer the full range of Masses and sacraments that are currently available. A second collection will be taken up next weekend, June 6 and 7, for the Fund for Retired Priests. This is the Only Annual Collection for Retired Priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Remember what these men created, inspired and supported over the years. Thank God many of our elderly retired priests continue to serve our needs. We need them, and they need us. Thank you for your sacrifice and generosity! Stewardship of Treasure Sunday Collection 5/24/2015 - $11,235.00 II Joseph Fornari and Allison Buzinski June 13, 2015 Thank you for your generosity. From the Religious Education & Youth Ministry Office May 31, 2015 CAMPAIGN LEADERSHIP During the past several months, this dedicated group of parishioners has been hard at work - behind the scenes - serving on the Steering Committee for the Building for the Future Campaign. While the input and engagement of many St. Mary community members helped to shape the final Campaign priorities, it was this group of leaders who, working in concert with other parish committees, helped to ensure that the best plan for moving forward was reached. Honorary Chairs The Carey Family Carla and Frank Orland Judy and John Scully Joan and Jack Wiaduck Steering Committee Linda and Phil Radtke – Co-Chairs Betty and Tim Turner – Co-Chairs Jane and Bill Birmingham Michelle and Michael Cronin Jennifer and Bill Fangmann Maddalena and Michael Flight David Jones Elizabeth Kos Michael Prangle Susie and John O’Brien Michael O’Connor Chris Robling Deborah Romero Scott Schafer Thomas Shields Thankfully, as the Building for the Future Campaign unfolds over the coming months, the Steering Committee Members will continue their involvement, providing oversight and helping to engage St. Mary parishioners and friends in the effort. UPCOMING INFORMATIONAL EVENTS: The first Open Informational Event will be held in the Rectory on Tuesday, June 23rd, from 7–8 p.m. While everyone is welcome to attend, please RSVP to Kristin Short at (708) 447-1020 or kristin.short@hubinternational.com, so we can best anticipate the number of people planning to join us on June 23rd. All St. Mary parishioners and friends are encouraged to attend to learn more about the Building for the Future Campaign. In addition to sharing the priorities and why the Campaign is important to our faith community, the short presentation will include details about the specific financial goals and naming opportunities associated with the Building for the Future Campaign. Notices about future informational event dates will be posted here as future dates become available. Questions can be directed to Dan Schoen at 312-320-7324 or e-mail to schoen325@gmail.com Words from Our Lady of Fatima From May 13th thru Oct 13th of 1917, The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared six times to three young Portuguese children while they watched their family's sheep. At her May and June visitations, she asked them to pray the Rosary and make sacrifices for sinners. On July 13th she showed them a vision of Hell. These were her words: "You have seen Hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved, and there will be peace. The war is going to end, but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the Pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light (which occurred on Jan 25th, 1938) know that this is the great sign given you by God that he is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and the Holy Father. To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace: if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred and the Holy Father will have much to suffer. Various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she will be converted and a period of peace will be granted to the world." Consider this an invitation to come to Mass on the First Saturday of the month and make a Communion of reparation and pray the Rosary with us after Holy Mass. SHARE THE HARVEST Please join The St. Mary Garden Ministry in sharing with people in need… Bring your home-grown fruit, veggies, and herbs to St. Mary Church on Sundays.
