ST. JULIANA CATHOLIC CHURCH – IGLESIA CATÓLICA SANTA JULIANA
WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA
JANUARY 25, 2015 – 25 DE ENERO, 2015
Would you like to go out fishing for God?
¿Quieres ir a pescar para Dios?
How many of you have ever been deep sea
fishing? I have gone to deep sea fishing quite a few
times. Indeed, I was shocked to learn that more than 2
million participated in the sport last year, resulting in
retail sales of almost $2.4 billion dollars, sales tax of
$143.7 million and a total economic impact of almost
$4.5 billion dollars. Deep sea fishing provides jobs for
nearly 55,000 people.
You may be wondering and asking what deep sea
fishing has to do with today readings and with the
church. You are going to see over the next four weeks
that deep sea fishing is a picture of the deep soul fishing.
As Saint Mark tells us in today’s reading: “Jesus passed
by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother
Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were
fishermen. Jesus said to them, ‘come with me, and I will
make you fishers of men.”’ That announcement tells us
what our primary business is, both as a church and as
followers of Jesus individually. You and I are followers
of Jesus. So, I would like to invite you and also myself
to go further and understand that every day Jesus would
like fishers of men to launch out into the sea of humanity
to catch human souls for God.
Actually, the church's primary business is the
fishing business, and no matter how well we do it, if we
ever get out of the fishing business, we are out of
business. Indeed, your neighborhood is a lake full of fish.
Your office is a lake full of fish, and also your school is a
lake full of fish. When Jesus said: "I will make you
fishers of men,” he not only told Simon and his brother
Andrew but he also continues to tell it to you and I. He
was saying, I will take you, with your personality, your
background, and I will use you to catch men and women
and boys and girls and bring them into my family.
You and I also can be Jonah to the people of our
communities, and our nation. So, are you ready to go out
deep soul fishing for God?
altura?

Sanctify the Secular Culture
“There have been great men and women in the recent past
who have warned us in advance against the rise of this
godless and anti-human period of history in which we find
ourselves” (John Vennari). Hilaire Belloc referred to these
times as the ‘post-Christian paganism.” The challenge to
the Church is to sanctify the secular culture. We help do
this through our prayers, fasting, and visible public presence
at the Presidential Women’s Center (100 Northpoint
Parkway in West Palm Beach) during the 40 Days for Life
(February 18 to March 29) Monday – Saturday 7:00 a.m. –
6:00 p.m. or Sundays 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Come join the
Church rising up for the end of abortion in this country.

Marzo 29) Días y Horas: Lunes - Sábado 7:00 a.m. - 6:00
p.m. y Domingos 3:00-5:00 p.m.
